Bundy’s Not the Only Citizen That’s Been Swatted

Posted by Tina

John Fund over at National Review has dug up a few victims of the now militarized departments of government. The photo he uses of the armed team confronting Bundy illustrates the point…the stories bring it home and make it personal:

Take the case of Kenneth Wright of Stockton, Calif., who was “visited” by a SWAT team from the U.S. Department of Education in June 2011. Agents battered down the door of his home at 6 a.m., dragged him outside in his boxer shorts, and handcuffed him as they put his three children (ages 3, 7, and 11) in a police car for two hours while they searched his home. The raid was allegedly intended to uncover information on Wright’s estranged wife, Michelle, who hadn’t been living with him and was suspected of college financial-aid fraud

.

Let that sink in. Now answer the question: Do we live in America or are we living in a fundamentally transformed radical Democrat nation styled after the twin socialist nightmares of Nazism and Communism…think SS or KGB!

What the hell was that SWAT team from the Department of Education hoping to find in Mr. Wright’s home that would explain or provide proof of his estranged wife’s alleged financial aid fraud? Might a simple phone call have been a better place to begin the quest for information? The DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION!

What was the justification for busting through the door at six AM? And if there was some legal justification not evident here, wouldn’t the police department and judicial system be the appropriate agents to contact?

The problem with well intentioned authority and power is the danger of abuse. We cannot trust our leaders and every single department of government must be bug bombed to eliminate the bad bugs.

Time to swat back!

Glad that you are finally paying attention to the police state, sad that it’s only because there’s a Democrat in the White House.

  2. Post Scripts says:

I am afraid this may be more urban legend than fact. The blogosphere did carry such a story, but there is no indication that a SWAT team from any federal agency was involved. Wright may have thought so, but accord to the DOE these were their normal law enforcement agents assisted by local law enforcement, as is their custom.

    This is from the indictment:

    U.S. v. Michelle Wright et al. (2:12-cr-316-WBS)

Michelle Wright, 31; Kenneth Wright, 34; Jaymar Brown, 33; Jennifer Brown, 54; Brandy Miner, 36, all of Stockton, and Janeigh Mendoza, 31, of Tracy.

According to the indictment, from July 2007 to June 2011, the defendants conspired with each other and with others to obtain federal student assistance funds by fraud. Michelle Wright and Mendoza used stolen personal identity information to apply for additional FSA funds. Some of these individuals were severely handicapped and unable to read or write, let alone attend college. The defendants recruited straw students and used their own names to apply for FSA funds. Michelle Wright and Mendoza completed the paperwork necessary to obtain the funds. As a result of their scheme, the Department of Education lost more than $285,000.

It’s at times like this when it’s great to have a professional to rely on. I’m surprised that John Fund of NR didn’t check for this before posting. NR is a long running and reliable source. Thanks Jack.

There have been other instances of abuse by various departments of government ongoing for many years. The couple in Montana that bought some land, got their permits, started to build and then the EPA came down on them over some silly puddle of water was outrageous. There have been many instances of eminent domain abuse. George Lucas had similar problems with his local community when he wanted to build a private studio on his property. After meeting their many and sundry environmental demands, at considerable expense, they arbitrarily denied him his permits.

I thought the purpose for weaponizing various departments was for protection against enemies of the people not criminals. And not all abuse deserving of swatting back has to do with weapons.

I will send John Fund an email if possible, thanks Jack.

Also it may be that this guy was found not to be guilty since this goes back to 2011. Since the police were involved and the paperwork was in order this guy, if not guilty, was a victim of a messed up wife. Unfortunate, especially for the kids, but not out of order.

My attitude toward Democrats has more to do with the radicals in the EPA/environmental movement than any other. They have been out of hand under Presidents of both parties but the radicals tend to be leftwingers. Now we can add the IRS, FEC, OSHA to the radical list that have stepped up their power tripping in the last few years.

The targeting of True the Vote creator Catherine Engelbrecht IS going to court and it looks like she has quite a case. Her description of the depth and breadth of the intimidation and harassment: “weaponizing of government.”

I agree and believe it is in the best interests of all Americans that the abuses be made transparent and the guilty parties through due process face the consequences.

As to security concerns under Bush I believe the position on Post Scripts could be described as uncomfortable but mindful of the purpose. I recall defending the process but saying that we had to be able to trust those who were empowered to use it. I also recall asking for instances of abuse that we could pin on Bush…crickets. The creator of the law has said recently that it is not being implemented as intended or according to the law as written.

Michelle Malkin serves up some history in case anyone is interested. A key portion:

The new Obama order covers not only phone calls overseas with the specific goal of counterterrorism surveillance, but all domestic calls by Verizon customers over at least a three-month period.

Trevor Timm, a digital rights analyst at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, called the order “shockingly broad.”

“Not only are they intercepting call data into and out of the country, but they are intercepting all call data in the United States, which goes far beyond what the FISA Amendments Act allows,” Timm said.

“This is an abuse of the Patriot Act on a massive scale,” said Gregory Nojeim, senior counsel at the Center for Democracy and Technology. “Since the law requires that the telephone records sought be relevant to an investigation, it appears that the FBI and the NSA may have launched the broadest investigation in history because everyone’s telephone calls seem to be relevant to it.”

…The “top secret” order issued in April by a judge on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court at the request of the FBI instructs the telecommunications giant Verizon to provide the NSA with daily reports of “all call detail records or ‘telephony metadata’ created by Verizon for communications (i) between the United States and abroad; or (ii) wholly within the United States, including local telephone calls.”

An aside: I have never heard of a radical right wing environmentalist…conservatives are not that unthinking, unreasonable, or extreme. We have been known to be enthusiastic conservators. If anyone knows of a right wing extremist environmentalist please speak up.

Evidently Chris never listens to himself. Sad but not unexpected.

  6. Tina says:

Read this, referring back to this, origiating from this to discover why Americans are fed up and fighting back wherever and whenever they can.

The long tireless march of the socialist left to fundamentally transform the foundation and laws that were put in place to protect Americans equally needs swatting.
