His family said Scott, an African-American, was unarmed and sitting in his car reading a book, waiting for his son to come home from school. But Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney said Scott exited his car with a gun, not a book. He said officers couldn’t find a book at the scene.
“It’s time for the voiceless majority to stand up and be heard,” said the police chief, who is black. “It’s time to change the narrative because I can tell you from the facts that the story’s a little bit different as to how it’s been portrayed so far, especially through social media.”
Putney said evidence and witnesses support the officers’ claim that Scott was armed. Officers repeatedly told Scott to drop his handgun, the chief said, but he didn’t. Officer Brentley Vinson, who is black, then shot him. Now we are faced with another riot scene by people so far out in front this story that they have no clue about the truth of the matter.
Nobody knows why Scott exited his car with a gun, only that he did. And we know for a fact that he approached the police despite their warnings to halt.
Now, lets put yourself in this man’s shoes for a moment and see if you can understand how such a situation might occur? Scott is of course a black man and he’s been hearing for a very long time from his peers that cops are brutal and they kill black men for little to no reason. The media helps Scott form an opinion because the media makes it seem like cops kill blacks all the time.
Scott would have to be deaf and blind not to have heard about the racial violence in Baltimore, Ferguson, Detroit, New York and so many other places this year and past years, much of it blamed on cops. He’s likely watched the news many times depicting crowds of black protestors battling with police in city after city, from coast to coast.
He’s linked to the civil rights movement by his race and and that movement has an ugly history where law enforcement was not always right. Also, his first person education of what it’s like to be black in America. He has no doubt been constantly reminded how he is an oppressed minority in his own country. The outrageous rhetoric and huge lies told by members of Black Lives Matter, by the militant Rev. Jeremiah Wright, by reactionary Priest Father Flagler, by phony Jesse Jackson, by huckster Al Sharpton, by racist Spike Lee, they have all been burned in his soul. It has filled Scott with rage and hatred for the injustice he feels is all around him. Of course this was a fiction account of what might have happened, but it explains how an irrational act might have happened.
Now a couple of cops enter into Mr. Scott’s life…while he’s sitting in his car. For reasons not yet apparent, they are telling him what to do, and in that sense treating him (at least in his eyes) like a criminal. Scott, who is allegedly handicapped, has a loaded pistol in an ankle holster and so he thinks to himself, he could be seconds away from making a courageous stand against police injustice, thus becoming either an instant martyr or a national hero, especially to the black community.
What do you think he’s going to do, in this heat of the moment? My guess exactly what he did do. He he had all reasons that he needed.
Now Scott is a victim, and as such he has martyr status for the cause, but ironically the 3000 plus black males who who were shot in Chicago this year won’t even register on the media’s radar. The spotlight is on solely Scott and the cops. It’s not on the black community, it’s not on black on black gun violence, it’s focused on the cops and their alleged misconduct. This would be almost comical if it were not so tragic. The irrational mentality of the protestors is not uncommon (for a mob), but what is uncommon is the gutless politicians who make excuses for the rioters, hoping to grab some votes down the road. That part is frustrating to any American with a shred of patriotism and common sense.
The part of the black community that is angry over this latest incident don’t want to believe that Scott was armed with a gun, despite the fact that the officer that actually fired the fatal shot was black and acting in a lawful and proper manner. They’re going to go with the false narrative…It’s another “Hands up – don’t shoot” deal only now its transformed into “He only had a book in his hand!”
I would go so far as to say, many people involved now, don’t care about the right or wrong of it, they are focused only on the fact that one more black man was killed by cops! So, the stage is set, the police and the next next “so-called” victim are doomed to play in yet another tragedy followed by another angry mob scene. Yes, the next big riot is already in the works. The forces of fear, bigotry, and hate are driving this race based division and tearing us apart as a country. The lies of the race-baiters are stomping all over the truth…now that’s the real injustice here.
The question you ought to be asking yourself is, how many more people will die before this country erupts into the worst racial violence we’ve seen since the Watts riots? Ask yourself, who will emerge to leverage off all this hate and division? These will be the people who will keep the violence alive, who will keep lies flowing if only to make sure justice is never served. You know that certain politicians will…they already have, its what some of them do for a living. Others, who are not even black, but hate America just the same will be there. From Muslim radicals to neo-Nazi’s, there’s something there for all them. And when the history of these times is finally written I believe that President Obama will have his legacy, but not the one he wanted.
