Down, Not Out – Republicans Regroup

Posted by Tina

It’s encouraging to know that the ruling party has the good sense to acknowledge mistakes and rethink strategy. This morning Speaker Ryan announced that our Republican representatives got together for a meeting of the minds. They have not given up on plans to repeal Obamacare and create laws that support and patients and doctors to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. At the same time they will continue to work on tax and regulation reform and energy and law enforcement issues.

Representative Mo Brooks filed an interesting repeal bill…take a gander:

“Effective as of Dec. 31, 2017, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is repealed, and the provisions of law amended or repealed by such Act are restored or revived as if such Act had not been enacted”

(I should have given J. Soden some credit for bringing this to our attention in comments…thanks J.)

One of the suggestions is to introduce three separate bills since the constraints in the Senate pose a big consideration. Hmmm…this simple bill looks like a good place to start.

On a related note. Since the election of Trump and the Republican Congress consumer confidence is up higher than it’s been in sixteen years!

Representative Brooks just made himself available to become Speaker of the House!
Methinks the Demwits gloated too soon!

The under George Bush Republicans — at times — held a majority in both houses. Their performance then was disappointing to say the least. Now Republicans have a solid control over the legislature and executive (as well as a holding governorship of 33 states).

Let us hope this government is not a repeat of what we had in the Bush years. I tired long ago of Republicans promising but never delivering. The only Republican I have ever known to deliver was Ronald Reagan, and even he had to compromise on tax reform with a Democrat party controlled legislature and suffer their unwillingness to cut spending.

Why is the feral gooberment letting ANY immigrants in this country when the country is $20 trillion in debt for crying out loud!!! Who the hell is supposed to pay to house, feed and provide other support for these people???

    • Bryan H. says:

Immigrants stimulate the economy, you idiot.

      • Tina says:

        Not all of them…you fanticizer!

        • Bryan H. says:

That’s not a word…and if it were, it wouldn’t be spelled that way…and your argument is beside the point. They don’t “all” have to stimulate the economy for what I said to be true. Immigrants, as a group, stimulate the economy. I thought this meaning was obvious.

          • Tina says:

            Oh pardon me…fantasisor.

It wasn’t meant as a legitimate word.

Immigrants participate in the economy but they are also a drain on resources…especially those without skills or common language. We’ve had a lot more of those in the last fifteen or more years.

The thing that stimulates the economy is production. When our government places restraints and inhibitors on production the economy drags and falters and we experience job losses and stagnant wages. When our government eliminates restraints and inhibitors the people are free to create, innovate, hire and produce. This activity is risky but worth the risk for the opportunity afforded when profits can be realized. Working folks have more to spend and participate more fully in their lives…we all experience economic growth and prosperity.

A lot of immigrants work for the opportunity to send money back home to their families. To the degree that they do this they are not participating in stimulating the economy.

April 2013, Daily Mail, “In the United States last year, more than $120 billion was sent by workers to families abroad – making it the largest sender of remittances in the world. More than $23 billion went to Mexico, $13.45 billion to China, $10.84 billion to India and $10 billion to the Philippines, among other recipients.”

October 2014, <a href="http://immigrationreform.com/2014/10/29/illegal-immigrants-send-home-50-billion-annually-but-cost-taxpayers-more-than-113-billion, “Illegal immigrants send home $50 billion annually but cost taxpayers more than $113 billion”:

Illegal immigrants residing in the U.S. send $50 billion in remittances to their home countries each year, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The World Bank estimates that number is even higher, closer to $120 billion.

To put that figure into context, $50 billion is the same amount as the U.S. government’s annual foreign aid budget, notes the New York Times. It’s the operating budget of a midsize country, or in America’s case, enough to fund North Carolina and Maine for an entire year.

Nearly a quarter of that money is sent to family members in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. Those three countries collected $11.8 billion, adding 10 percent to each nation’s gross domestic product.

Approximately 126,000 illegal immigrants emigrated from these three nations to the U.S. since last October and federal officials estimate at least 95,500 more will enter next year.

The Central American governments have encouraged the high levels of emigration because it is earning their economy billions of dollars!

I doubt if the taxpayer cost to assist out of work Americans is figured into the $113 billion.

The argument that open border immigration is good for America is weak at best.

  5. Dewster says:

Breaking: Former Tea Party Congressman Steve Stockman and a former congressional aide were indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on charges they stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from charitable foundations to fund campaigns and pay personal expenses.

    • Tina says:

The case will play out and we will discover that the system works when used according to the law.

Now, let’s try it with some of those on the other side of the aisle who always seem to escape indictment of their criminal activity, Lois Lerner, Hilary Clinton, and Eric Holder are a few that come to mind.
