Gen. John Kelly Trump’s New Chief of Staff

Posted by Tina

In a possible move to bring discipline and order to the West Wing President Trump has named retired Marine Corps General John Kelly to be his new Chief of Staff. He begins work on Monday. Kelly has been serving as the head of Homeland Security but accepted the offer of Chief of Staff without hesitation:

“John Kelly will do a fantastic job. Gen. Kelly has been a star, done an incredible job thus far, respected by everybody,” Mr. Trump told reporters Friday.

The president told Mr. Priebus two weeks ago he was planning to bring in a new staff chief, a senior administration official said. Mr. Kelly was offered the job earlier this week and immediately accepted, the senior official said.

Mr. Trump discussed bringing in Mr. Kelly with a small group of people, the senior official said. Part of the draw, the official said, was that he believes Mr. Kelly can provide effective leadership and has the respect of the West Wing, which is staffed with aides whose ideology falls across the political spectrum.

Excellent choice and not a moment too soon.

    Will she be right?

Dana Perino: Jeff Sessions Could End Up at DHS Now That Gen. Kelly’s in the White House:

““I’m gonna go out and say this,” she began. “I think that this was all set up for a few weeks because the president has been so upset about Jeff Sessions and his recusal in the Russia investigation that the Republicans and conservatives that came to Jeff Sessions’ defense this week all said ‘But he’s doing the best on the issue we care about most and that is immigration.’ Well, where can Jeff Sessions do even more on immigration? As the Secretary of Homeland Security.”

“So he’s playing chess and everyone else is playing checkers,” Jesse Watters reacted.
    Perino continued with her prediction.

“So I think that what they’re gonna try to do is Sessions over to DHS and then how can the conservatives complain?” she asked. “And then you have a new AG, [Trump] thinks, who can fire [Robert] Mueller.”

I saw this segment of The Five and I tend to agree. Trump’s office appears disorganized and chaotic but behind all of it is a man that doesn’t sit on a problem. He shakes things up and he plans.

If she’s right, and I suspect she may well be, I wonder who he has in mind for the new AG? Will it be an appointment while Congress is out of town?
