News today reported on an investigation that began in 2016. Three brothers and one friend, all American citizens, were all executed shortly after they were taken into custody by Mexican Marines involved in fighting the drugs cartels. Few details were available at this time, however a UN envoy issued the following warning back in 2016:
“Protective measures remain insufficient and ineffective; impunity and the lack of accountability for violations of the right to life remain a serious challenge, as does the absence of reparations for the victims.” U.N. report.
In other words, any person in Mexico, including US tourists, could be rounded up and executed without notice or trial. If Mexico made a mistake and killed the wrong person/s…well, that is just tough – families of victims get NOTHING.
According to the commission’s report, witnesses said the four victims were forced into a vehicle belonging to the security detail of then-Matamoros Mayor Leticia Salazar Vázquez. Human rights investigators were also able to interview several men who reported being arrested the same day the American siblings disappeared. Many of them said they saw the group taken to an empty lot to be beaten and interrogated by the marines.
The commission determined that detention was illegal, as there was no order that would have explained their arrest. So far, state and federal authorities have denied involvement in the death of the victims. In a press release, the commission added hat officials, marines, and state and federal police lied in statements to cover up the killings.
One week ago our State Dept. issued another dire warning, not to travel to most parts of Mexico as your safety can not be assured.
For those of you who like a bargain regardless of the risk, Matamoros has special rates on hotels and flights from US right now, I just checked. You can save a bundle, really nice hotels for $40 a night, half off air fare too. This could be a trip you will remember for your whole life, however short that may be.
Mexico certainly qualifies for that descriptive epithet TheDonald was accused of using.
And has for a good long time.
Pretty sad, but this is the first I’ve heard of this.
Another sh*thole in a long list of sh*holes. Why? It’s not because of the average Mexican citizen, it’s the result of Mexico’s long history of abject government/ruling class corruption.
And for perhaps the first time in our history we have a president that is willing to call Mexico’s leadership on their failures to enact principles that would economically benefit the citizens and provide for their security, making certain that their citizens must flee to America for safety and opportunity. We have a president who calls said leaders in Mexico and America who shame Americans when they feel overwhelmed and express legal and financial concerns. The divisive, game playing political approach of the left does not amount to serving the people or to responsible participation in the world. Mexico needs to follow Trump’s lead and step up their game significantly!
If every nation’s goal was an educated, trained, contributing populace many of the world’s biggest problems would vanish. Remaining problems would then be greatly reduced to the point of being affordable and manageable.
We saw the truth in this under the socialist policies of the Obama administration when we clearly saw rising numbers of American’s who were poor, homeless, nonproductive, and dependent with a collapsed middle class…socialist policies just do not work.
Mexico will pay in lost revenue from tourism and most likely in foreign investment.
Marxists are notoriously pig headed so it’s anyone’s guess how long it will take for them to get a clue…if ever they do.
