Broward County “PROMISE” Program Failed the Community!

Posted by Tina

As we all now know there were a number of system failures prior to the school shooting in Florida last week. Reports to the FBI were ignored. FBI procedures were not followed. Local school and county authorities did nothing even after multiple complaints and reports were made over a long period. Everyone knew the shooter was “dangerous.” He signaled his intentions well in advance of his deeds on social media.

What the hell?

Well…the FBI has been busy with it’s “Russia Russia Russia” probe (Not to mention CYA activities) but is it too much to ask that they walk and chew gum at the same time? Their budget last year was more than adequate at $9,502.4 million! But there’s also one local policy that’s deadly when it comes to the safety of students attending public schools in the area. We At PS featured a story about this feel good policy a couple of years back. Jeff Sanders of PJ Media recalls the “PROMISE program which was adopted to “reduce the number of students being charged with crimes for minor offenses” in the school system:

They wanted to cut down on the “school to prison pipeline.” So instead of calling the police for things like vandalism and assault/battery and hauling people to jail, they tried the counseling approach. Here is the “matrix” that they use when dealing with problem students. Notice that for issues like fighting, harassment, bullying, and vandalism, the answer is counseling, something called “restorative justice,” “developmental assets profiling,” and “assessments with coordinated social skills lessons.”

So, they chose not to call the police even when crimes were committed! They “sheltered” criminals and adopted an expanded social response. Obviously, given the length of time this shooters problems were known, social intervention was not just ineffective, there’s a good chance it was never implemented in the Cruz case. When offenders are coddled good students are subjected to disruption and danger.

Once again leftist thinkers came up with a plan that was symbolic in nature…a drop in statistics meant they’d all feel and look better! Problem solved!

But the problem wasn’t solved and what followed was an unnecessary tragedy.

It’s time to put the security of those students who actually want to learn ahead of the severely dysfunctional and criminal elements. Serious boot camp or jail for offenders, in particular serious offenders, which Cruz obviously was, will better serve the students and the entire community.

Excellent related article at The Hill, “What if there were serious gun controls?” is my recommended companion piece.

One of the big problems is the bureaucratic nature of the FBI and it’s always been like that long before 9-11. You’ve got a bunch of highly educated guys in suits, who act more like executives than investigators that get down to the street level and actually start talking to the little people! Their training and attitude of elitism and superiority makes them move slowly and carefully, looking at only the biggest and best cases! You know the kind that makes for promotions and get the FBI some nice headlines. Hey, you got a tip about a gangster setting up in New York launder money for the cartel, they are all over it – this is their kind of case. But, you report that some 18 year nobody is talking violence on a social network online and it’s a non-starter. And maybe he’s a nut and owns a legal firearm…eh, so what? They get a hundred of these calls a day. Their response shows exactly how much they cared. They did the absolute minimum to cover their butt, just in case he turned out to be a real shooter and then they closed it – not sharing the info with anyone like the City or County cops where the shooter lived. That’s stupid. However, that’s the way the FBI operates. They still don’t share even benign intel like this with outside agencies. However, if that same case had been assigned to the local police detectives, real cops that live in his area, with their own kids in school nearby and what do you think they are going to do about it? Hint: They sure won’t kiss it off like the FBI. After all the crap that came down after 9-11 the FBI has still not learned their lesson.

Unfortunately the “PROMISE” program ensured that local authorities were not fully informed. Even if they had been, the freedoms we all enjoy protect potential criminals until that moment when they actually commit a crime. This is why the social and moral state of our cities and nation must be seriously considered in addressing this problem.

We have caused this problem by adopting nurturing attitudes that deride common sense principles and morality. We ignore the well being of law abiding students and make victims of bullies and criminals…and shamefully we address (excuse) issues by race! The divisive nature of left politics adds flames to the volatile situation.

The utter stupidity behind leftist social politics is causing large numbers of fatalities now…enough is enough!

your 100 percent right Jack!been saying this for years about the FBI, they need guys with street sense ,not these suit and tie country clubbing college guys

The same amount of scrutiny of the FB’s failure should be extended to the Broward County Sheriff whose deputies were called to the shooter’s place of residence something like 39 times.
We’ve become so politically correct and afraid to “offend” someone that nutcases go unreported and unpunished.
The FBI’s “If you see something, say something” doesn’t work if nobody’s listening!

In other news, more failed PC BS.

Once again, our potential adversaries are ROTFLMAO.

      OMG!

Women are not strong enough to throw the grenade far enough “if they haven’t thrown growing up” Frost explained. More than 200 000 women are serving in active duty today, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“We are finding that there are a large number of trainees that come in that quite frankly just physically don’t have the capacity to throw a hand grenade 20 to 25 to 30 meters. In 10 weeks, we are on a 48-hour period; you are just not going to be able to teach someone how to throw if they haven’t thrown growing up.”

When we put social fairness ahead of the strength and readiness of our military we weaken the military and the safety of those who serve while compromising the security of the nation. Dumb! Feminists need to get over themselves and face the realities regarding male/female differences that are ever more obvious and important!

When an agenda gets in the way of safety and life you’d think it would serve as a wake up call. Sadly it doesn’t. Ridiculous!!
