MS-13 criminal activity was “stifled” during the GW Bush years but following the election of Barack Obama, in particular following his re-election in 2012, MS-13 criminal activity exploded right along with the number of sanctuary cities. Obama’s prejudiced policy not to prosecute minority offenders and his lax immigration policy undoubtedly contributed to the rise of the deadly gang. The The Washington Examiner outlines a report by The Center for Immigration Studies:
President Trump has pledged to crack down on the gang and deport those in the United States illegally, and report author Jessica M. Vaughan suggested that it can’t happen soon enough.
Detailing how the gang rebuilt itself under Obama’s open-border immigration policies, she said, “this resurgence represents a very serious threat to public safety in communities where MS-13 has rebuilt itself. The resurgence is directly connected to the illegal arrival and resettlement of more than 300,000 Central American youths and families that has continued unabated for six years, and to a de-prioritization of immigration enforcement in the interior of the country that occurred at the same time.”
The research she supervised at the immigration think tank found that MS-13 concentrations were in areas where so-called “unaccompanied alien children” were put under Obama, including Virginia, California, Maryland and New York. They included those participating in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals who Democrats in Congress are fighting for.
She cited an example of a Maryland DACA recipient charged with gang activity who urged pals in El Salvador to take advantage of Obama’s policies:
One MS-13 clique leader in Frederick, Md., who had received a DACA work permit and was employed as a custodian at a middle school in Frederick, Md., and who was recently incarcerated for various gang-related crimes, reportedly was told by gang leaders in El Salvador to take advantage of the lenient policies on UACs to bring in new recruits, knowing that they would be allowed to resettle in the area with few questions asked. Several of these unaccompanied minors now have been arrested and incarcerated for various crimes, including a vicious random attack on a sheriff’s deputy in 2015.
Crime, torture and theft are the trademarks of the gang.
The same party that uses school children to agitate for gun control also shelters these hard core MS-13 criminals in sanctuary cities!
Why would anyone trust Democrats to lead our nation or create safe spaces for our children?
Any connection between poor Nikolas and M-13 exists only in your addled brain. Was it the “Cruz” that got you going in this direction? I’ll bet it was. Nickolas is not an immigrant, either. You just go off on these bogus tangents, bearing no factual grounding in the situation at hand.

Let’s talk about the deplorable access the citizens have to mental health services. Why do you suppose his mother called the cops, and not the local mental health? Likely, it’s because the cops come out for free, and the local mental health, if there even is any, charges money.
People just hate to spend money on that sort of thing: “I should shell out $150 an hour so someone can listen to me sob?” But we could get around this human foible, and cut down on the mass casualties, by providing universal access to care.
But you still don’t think that’s a good idea, do you?

Sorry, not a “tangent,” Libby. This story appeared in the news, in a prominent paper on the day I posted bout it.
There’s also nothing “bogus” about the article, the study, or the well documented horrendous criminality of the MS-13 gang. An FBIreport to the House Homeland Security Committee Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence last year included the following:
“Why you want to show yourself up for a racist … time after time after time … is beyond me.”
Not surprised, a great deal seems to me to be “beyond” you, including the fact that this has nothing to do with race or racism.
Calling me a “racist” for bringing attention (again) to a serious problem that negatively impacts minority individuals and communities the most shows a certain callous disregard for their safety on your part. What are you trying to accomplish?
Putting a slimy political tactic ahead of solving real problems…as you usually do…is despicable.
The only association I made to the Florida school shooting was to point out the ineffective methods your party employs:

You’ve done it again. Universal healthcare will solve the school shooter problem to the same degree that gun free zones have solved the problem.
Availability doesn’t guarantee use or effectiveness of care.

HA! Tell that to the people who were forced to give up their health insurance to buy an Obamacare plan and were promised it would “save” them lots of money!
Universal doesn’t equal free or inexpensive…although much of the “cost” remains hidden in more taxes and greater debt.
Mental health is the greater issue at play in school shootings. But there’s a lot more going on than access to care. Why you and your party resist any discussions about mores and standards is beyond me. You cling desperately to an anything goes agenda, refuse to recognize right and wrong, destroy the concept of family, adopt the notion of victim realities and reject personal responsibility and accountability, and then attempt to blame violent behavior on inanimate objects (guns) or the lack of “free” mental health care.
The “old fashioned” morality our parents lived by and taught us worked well. The standards were simple, universally accepted, and applied to everyone. Problems of this type began after the left’s “revolutions” that questioned authority and resisted rules. But you will not own it so moving on to actually solve this and other societal problems will be difficult.

Who said it did? We’re talking the psychological difference between having the cash removed from your paycheck by, admittedly, a Nanny State … and forking it over your-feeble-self. I’m talking about attaining the personal humility to own that, subject to a reasonably free and fair electoral process (aka Democracy), basic needs you cannot meet yourself should be met for you.
If we can achieve consensus that universal access to mental healthcare in the public schools is a better idea than arming teachers, we will be making progress. I have trouble reconciling myself to the idea that this is even questionable. But there is my Tina, questioning it.
Now, that fact that Nikolas was nineteen and not graduated, would seem to indicate that he fell through the bureaucratic cracks in our public school system, big time. But we are not going to turn the institution into a bonafide bear pit: armed teachers! Jesus H !!!
We are going to fill the cracks.
There will be no more expelling trouble-makers. They just come back with their gun.
There WILL be a big uptick in psych personnel on campus … and facilities to house and care for people who have gone off the rails, as Nikolas plainly had.
We already fill the cracks to a great degree. Unfortunately the longer we do it the more needy people there are and the fewer people there are who can afford to provide for themselves and the growing numbers of the needy. We also pay for a big bureaucracy that fails exactly as the various bureaucracies failed to intercede with this kid. And as the bureaucracy grows programs and services become less effective, less efficient, and more costly. And year after year we add to our debt because the programs are not sustainable.
There are better ways to deal with mental health issues…the more local the better!
