Tillerson Out – Pompeo to State – Gina Haspel to Direct CIA

Posted by Tina

A shakeup in government is underway as Rex Tillerson is relieved of his duties as Secretary of State. Philosophical differences regarding policy on North Korea, Russia and Iran seem to be at the bottom of Trumps decision. Two of Tillersons underlings were also fired. Tillerson’s departing comments were gracious and demonstrate his dedication to our nation:

“What is most important is to ensure an orderly and smooth transition during a time that the country continues to face significant policy and national security challenges.

Trump has named CIA Director Mike Pompeo to replace Tillerson at state. CIA deputy director, Gina Haspel has been named to replace Pompeo.

The new appointments send another strong message of strength to our enemies. The little doves among us will probably go screaming into the night at the news since they have no experience that peace comes through strength. Since they don’t understand that the big dog prefers peace and security they fear apocalyptic war unnecessarily. This change in management will create an aligned approach and that’s a good thing. The last thing we need at this time is mixed messages.

“Philosophical differences regarding policy on North Korea, Russia and Iran seem to be at the bottom of Trump’s decision.”

Well, you could put it that way, I suppose. Or, you could say that Trump proposed upping the old nuclear arsenal, and Rex declared him a moron.

    I’m with Rex.

Hmmm…just how unusual is it for America to increase, or improve upon, our nuclear capacity?

      Not very!

January 2016, Boston Globe, “Rearming for the apocalypse”

President Obama has proposed a frighteningly wrongheaded plan to “modernize” our nuclear arsenal at the unfathomable cost of about $1 trillion over the next 30 years.

It could be that both presidents have seen evidence of a real need to update and improve our nuclear capacity. In fact Robert Burns of the Associated Press told Fox News that Trumps proposal, “…reaffirms the nuclear policy of President Barack Obama, including his commitment to replace all key elements of the nuclear arsenal with new, more modern weapons over the coming two decades.”

Defensive weapons are an unfortunate necessity in today’s crazy world whether or not you and Rex like it. And lets face it, Obama had a lot to do with making sure that both North Korea and Iran got a lot closer to full nuclear (war) capacity.

Lordy, you are slow to learn.

    Let’s hope Gina will be another “Irene Kennedy” . . . . .

Tillerson was the wrong fit for Trump. Mark Levin reminded us on his radio show tonight he was recommended by Condoleezza Rice and he hired one of Obama’s advisers who laid out the plan for the Iran deal without getting the Senate’s approval.

Even though Tillerson came from the private sector he was a card carrying member of the swamp.

Pompeo will be a perfect fit for Trump. He did an outstanding job on the Benghazi committee questioning Hillary. Plus they both have their military schooling in common.

    • Tina says:

Tillerson was a good choice for the first year. He did oversee the NK pressure campaign that led to possible talks. His diplomacy had teeth. His nomination also swept out 4 career (deep state?) officials.

It makes sense now to replace him with someone with stronger credentials in the area of intelligence with a good handle on military strategy.

      • Peggy says:

Trump, not being apart of the political world took the advice of those who were to fill his original cabinet and advisers. Now, that he’s gotten his feet wet and learned who supported his agenda or not and has replaced those who didn’t. He’s operating like a CEO where individuals are given a limited time to perform. Those who do stay, those who don’t are replaced and not given more time to fail.

Looks like more will be leaving, like the VA secretary who was an Obama hold over. He committed a huge mistake with his spending taxpayer’s money on a trip for him and his wife to Europe. To Trump that’s like stealing from a company.

Good information on Tillerson negatives from Hugh Hewitt. NewsMax has the scoop from his WaPo article (behind a pay wall). Hewitt says this change was necessary for national security:

Rex Tillerson’s State Department moved at a “glacial pace” in filling positions, noting that multiple “key jobs remain unfilled, including the undersecretary for arms control and international security affairs and the U.S. representative to the U.N. mission in Geneva … The undersecretary for management is another empty office, even though veterans of the bureaucracy from past Republican presidents remain available.

“Tillerson has also failed to push nominees for crucial ambassador posts,” in Germany, South Korea, Turkey and South Africa, “though numerous and very qualified candidates abound,” Hewitt wrote.

“The paperwork gridlock of an isolated and uninfluential secretary of state brought the conservative pro-Trumpers and career State Department staff together in agreement that the department was a massive shipwreck.”

The radio host goes on to praise Trump’s choice to replace Tillerson, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, who he notes was “first in his class at West Point and an editor of the Harvard Law Review,” and comes with “key experience in the ways of the Washington swamp” from his time at the law firm Williams & Connolly.
