Safe Neighborhoods Program

by jack

My son, a police officer in another jurisdiction, is doing vehicle abatement to rid crime prone areas of old cars left on the street or upside down on in front yards.  He is getting out of his patrol car and serving legal notice for property owners to clean it up, get rid of the junk and weeds pursuant to the City Code and Health and safety Code. In some cases he gets abandoned homes condemned and torn down.  But, it gets even better. He is using jail trustees to do weed abatement on strips of city owned property in low income areas and what an impact this is making!

He’s targeted about 20 square blocks of the toughest neighborhoods in his town and it’s already having an impact on crime reduction! Neighborhoods are seeing their property value going up too and the decent people in those areas love what he is doing.  Things are looking up for the first time in many years.

The drug dealers and gang members are of course very upset with him. But, he told me that’s ok, because the sooner they move out the better. He has increased warrant service and even taken down illegal commercial grows of marijuana, many inside rented homes. He is not popular with the crime families and the gangs because he costing them a lot of money. But, he’s one tough cop.  He is doing what is right and it’s exactly what the law allows.

Gangs and the criminal element are not used to this sort of strict enforcement! But, they can go pound sand – threats are nothing new to him.  He’s formerly a Stockton cop and you know what a crime prone place that is.  It’s one of the worst cities in the nation for certain crimes, especially auto theft.

I would like to see this sort of creative enforcement being done in Chico. We’ve got all the legal authority we need – its just a matter of doing it.

County inmates could be used to clean up the trash the bums and vagrants are leaving behind.  They earn credit for time served and they do something for the community.  Nothing wrong with that!

They could be used to clear away brush that the bums use to hide their campsites in and much more. If my son can make a difference in his town – so can the Chico PD.  All the resources we need are already in place, it just takes a little initiative.

Next- Chico is overrun with transients. It’s worse now than a year ago. Things continue to get worse even though our so-called crimes stats say crime is dropping. If it is, then kudos to the street crimes unit. But, even so, we’re still losing our city to the bums.

Heck, you can’t go 100′ in a commercial area anymore without seeing some tramp with a sign asking for money. These guys are a drain on our city resources and we absolutely need to have a city-wide educational campaign to stop the idiots from giving the bums money!

Reality says, if life was not so easy here these guys would move on, but that’s not the way it is.  Chico is way too easy – plenty of free stuff and great places to shoplift.  If you ask the merchants the crime of shoplifting sure isn’t down.  But the police stats say it is, because retailers have all but given up on calling the police.  They know it won’t do much of anything.  A slap on the wrist and a lot of hassle…why bother?

My grandson left Chico two months ago for college not far from Nashville, Tenn.  He reports he just doesn’t see anyway near the bums we have here in Chico.  His opinion is (and this opinion is shared by many long time residents of his new area), that’s because their bums moved away to where life is easier… California!

I honestly believe and the evidence will support it,  our idiot liberals in Sacramento have rolled out the welcome mat for all the crazies and tramps from all over America.  What we are seeing are what the legislature has caused.  Liberal state governments are all having problems.  Conservative states are not – that ought to be a clue.  Now the bums have been arriving by the tens of thousands in California and like locusts they are ruining cities up and down the state.

The old liberal lie that these are just local folks, you know regular people like you or me and they are just down on their luck….but, that is just pure hogwash. The local police contradicted those hug-a-thug liberals with that big lie years ago!

Chico is in serious trouble and it’s getting worse.   Other than the street crimes unit, nothing else has worked.

    Well done…kudos to your son!

The broken window policy does work…and this certainly will contribute to the mental well being of the good citizens who live in these areas.

“our idiot liberals in Sacramento have rolled out the welcome mat for all the crazies and tramps from all over America…”

And from elsewhere! Open borders nuts put out the welcome mat to anyone looking for “free healthcare, food, housing…you name it. That magnet is big and powerful! Sanctuary! CA is the go to place for violent criminals.

Panhandling is more lucrative than welfare and less taxing than work. How about we arrest and put the capable bums to work doing public maintenance for their excessive loitering and panhandling. Since they don’t pay taxes or otherwise contribute to society why not? We are all subject to the responsibilities as well as rights in our republic.

Butte County Fire, Accident, Crime page that similar to the old police scanners. Every day there are post about a naked woman on Main St., a naked man with a knife at the Safeway on Mangrove, twenty homeless fighting at City Park, homeless man touching young girls at One Mile, etc. etc. etc. Police dispatched to them all.

Every week on the morning of trash pick up there’s a guy on a bike trying to manage 5-6 large plastic bags full of cans he’s taken out of the recycle containers put out the night before. I now put my cans out early the morning of pick up. Don’t want him going through my stuff.

The City Council meeting chamber Tuesday had to be cleared because the discussion the agenda item to restore the no sit and lie regulation removed in 2016. No action taken. The item will be brought up again at a future meeting.

I was amazed when I made a trip downtown to the Post Office on Tuesday this week. The City Plaza was clear of bums sleeping on the side walk or in the park surrounded by bags of flotsam. This is in stark contrast to what was going on just a month ago when the City Plaza was packed midday, especially around the first of the month.

I then noticed that there was a beat officer walking around.

Evidently something has radically changed or it was an unusual coincidence. I saw folks enjoying a lunch, walking with young children, and sunning themselves.

Has something extraordinary happened? Have we reclaimed our plaza for the people who paid and pay the taxes to build and maintain it instead of allowing it to be a gathering center for “homeless” criminals and drug abusers?

If yes, I would say this is a positive development. If this keeps up, I may even brave to venture into the plaza public toilet again to relieve myself someday.

I noticed the same thing Pie yesterday when I drove through downtown and by the plaza with an out of town friend to show her Chico. Last month, the last time I was downtown, when I drove by the plaza there were approximately 100 homeless there. Yesterday maybe a dozen and none that looked like they were living on the street. There were a couple across Main st. sitting on the lawn, but again not near the number as last month.

Hopefully, the city and police dept. have made a change and the people of Chico, who pay for this city and it’s services, will once again be able to enjoy them in a safe and clean environment.

Jack, Congrats need to be forwarded to your Son. Seems like one person can make a difference.

It is hard not to be negative on the subject of Chico’s mishandling of the homeless, Chico may very well be following into the misguided path of San Francisco and may soon need its own Poop patrol People.

Negative propaganda by those Liberals who hate Trump and the positive things he has accomplished with their use of the youthamism “Resist”, and how they support illegal entry into this country as well as street people’s life style while ignoring (it seems) the negative affect they bring to any community. Do homeless need help, some do, but a large majority seem to be able bodied, and are just modern bums working the system for a free lunch. It is all just negative political BS designed to overshadow Trumps successes while attempting to divert the fact of their own failures on as many issues.

Street people or their mentors like Chico’s Patrick Newman know how to play the system. These organizers do not help solve problems, instead they contribute to it, by staging groups of seemingly homeless in public places, And to me, it seems this staging is just using the homelessness plight as propaganda for more Government assistance programs. These gatherings are a simple choreograph designed only to make a visual statement while doing a “in your face” campaign toward local government.

First off, the liberal be-moaners cry “YOU”, not us, are the ones that don’t do enough to help these poor folk”, however, I rarely, if ever notice be-moaners doing much more than trash talking working self-reliant people in an effort to create more dollars for their legions of lazy, as well as themselves. I have witnessed the park plaza before and after a Newman group gathered and I have seen and picked up trash left behind , I am of the belief it is the groups way of showing disrespect and a “let someone else clean it up “attitude, which is part of the standard “we are entitled “ mindset. If they were instructed on anything positive it doesn’t seem that clean up after yourself is one of the discussions.

The transients neither respect nor contribute to the towns they invade, just destroy with their sloth and trash and usurping city revenue.

Chico is a prime example of the old adage “if you build it they will come” Chico did, and they have.

What needs to be done will cause outrage from the mournful left. However these same feel good leftist will do no more than to raise their voices in protest to those who try to improve the city in a way all can enjoy it. Only, as it seems, a few really interact in an effort to help people find a place in society. The loudest just continue to try and shame the rich with typical Liberal PC mantra like “the Rich need to contribute more tax dollars”, because it always someone else’s efforts that need to be increased, never theirs.

Chico is in trouble, there is no doubt about that, but until Chico’s leadership realize that a “Hard love hand up” solves more problems than a “feckless hand out”.

(having just read Pies post, maybe the powers that be are paying attention)

It is going to take effort by all, including the homeless and especially those that mentor them in resolving the problem, because handouts will never solve anything, other than draw in more of the same entitlement minded. Handouts are more like a room deodorant attempt to mask a problem. (A unnecessary use of city revenue is clearly exampled by San Francisco 70K a year poop patrol people)
Chico is heading toward that bay area’s model of filth, and if not addressed in a lawful manor will become a cesspool in the likes of San Francisco with its streets littered with human waste, used needles and trash. But until the elected stop pandering the homeless plight and pitting left against right in obvious attempt for votes, there will never be an end to the problem.

Take a look at the annual Comanche Creek clean up, what are you really achieving? If what you’re doing every year isn’t resolving the problem, and the mess just recurs over and over, it is obvious you are not solving the problem, as much as accepting it will continue to happen over and over.
