Justice for Conservatives and Free Speech at Berkley Campus!

Posted by Tina

The Young Americas Foundation and the UC Berkeley College Republicans filed a civil rights lawsuit against UC Berkley a year ago alleging, “…bias in the process of bringing high-profile speakers to campus.” The lawsuit came about after conservative speaker Anne Coulter’s speech was cancelled and was later ammended when UC Berkely threw up unreasonable roadblocks for Ben Shapiro’s appearance. YAF and the UC Berkley College Republicans won:

The Department of Justice filed a statement of interest backing the campus conservatives. The crux of their argument revolved around two campus policies that they claim violate students’ First and 14th Amendment rights: an unspoken “High-Profile Speaker Policy” and an on-the-books ” Major Events Policy.”

“This Department of Justice will not stand by idly while public universities violate students’ constitutional rights,” Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand said at the time.

In the settlement, UC Berkeley agreed to the following terms set by YAF:

Pay YAF $70,000.
Rescind the unconstitutional “High-Profile Speaker Policy.”
Rescind the viewpoint-discriminatory security fee policy.
Abolish its heckler’s veto — protesters will no longer be able to shut down conservative expression.

Under these terms, UC Berkeley will no longer be allowed to place a 3 p.m. curfew on conservative events or relegate conservative speakers to remote or inconvenient lecture halls on campus while giving left-leaning speakers access to preferred parts of campus.

Yes! Winning!! The people, in this case young people, are standing up for basic American values and rights. Awesome!

Free speech in Berkeley ironically is a losing battle. Sure – this one was a win, but as long as the Lunatic Leftie professors and administrators continue their brainwashing of students, we’ll continue hearing from clowns like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

On the lighter side, O-C’s continuing idiotic statements are requiring all dumb blonde jokes to be rewritten as “dumb brunette” . . . . . .

The college Republicans should absolutely be allowed to invite whoever they want without having to fear for their safety. The proper response to the college Republicans inviting Ann Coulter and, to a lesser extent, Ben Shapiro*, is mockery. I wouldn’t cross the street to listen to either of them, but I also wouldn’t cross the street to protest against them. Liberals need to learn to ignore them. They feed off our hate, and it makes them stronger. Coulter, especially, is basically a non-entity at this point because the left stopped paying attention to her.

*He’s…sometimes right, and has mellowed out a bit since Trump took office. Still a little twerp, but nowhere near Coulter levels of ridiculousness and irrelevance.
