It’s Like a Plague. . .

by Jack

Like a plague sweeping over the land, thousands of people are either killed, injured or caused severe financial loss because of this one thing. It makes me wonder how much more our society can take?

It’s been around for thousands of years, but back in the day, it was self-limiting. However, in the modern world, with all our safety nets, it’s starting to get out of control. What is this scourge of humanity that is affecting so many Americans, you may wonder? It’s Latin name is stupiditas, meaning, want of intelligence.

Too many Americans, in my opinion, are suffering from an extreme case of stupidity. The newspapers are filled with their bad examples. Type “Florida man” into your search engine and see what you get. Check this out: “Florida man on trial for burglary defecated and threw his feces at the judge on Friday, court officials said.” – “Drunk Florida man threatens coworkers with knife, strips naked, deputies say.” – “Florida Man Asks Cop to Help Him Start Scooter He Was Trying to Steal.”

Here’s a Darwin Award: The Black Bayou Draw Bridge, situated six miles south of Lake Charles, was closed to car traffic and open for a boat to pass through. That draw drawbridge presented an irresistible challenge to two Texas men, aged 23 and 32, looking for fun on Friday night. A witness observed the passenger emerge, push up the arm of the safety gate, and climb back into the car. Then the Chevy Cruze backed up a short distance and accelerated hard up the drawbridge ramp… up and over the edge. Splash!

Just hours ago there was two disturbing headlines that involved two men from Texas, each unknown to each other. Both left their babies in hot cars for hours and of course it ended badly. One was a teacher, which proves once again you can be educated and yet still be an idiot. Speaking of, can you believe Nancy Pelosi objects to deporting illegal aliens that failed to show up in court for a hearing? They broke the law entering illegally and they broke the law again not complying with a court order. We owe them nothing, but Nancy would reward them in CA with free healthcare, education, subsidized housing, etc. This does not say much about Nancy’s intelligence, but it says even less about those who keep re-electing her. Same could be said for Bernie Sanders and his impossible dream of tuition free colleges and debt forgiveness. He has no plan how to do it, only that we should do it. S-T-U-P-I-D.

The poster child for stupid said this yesterday, “Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defended her claim that the United States was running “concentration camps” on the border. ” AOC would be comical if she was not in Congress spending our money.

“Kids are dying in these camps and your only problem with them is what AOC calls them?” Unless you are a mind reader, you wouldn’t know what my concerns are, would you?

The fact is, the Border Patrol cannot be held responsible for every single person who arrives with serious medical issues. Often times they are mixed in with a mob of people and they have hidden symptoms that only a doctor might spot, but not a border patrol agent. People suffering dehydration or other illnesses are often hard to spot. Sometimes the parents could have made known the medical problem to an agent, but didn’t. In a perfect system the border patrol would have adequate staffing, including medical personnel to give every person a physical before they are held in custody. But, they don’t – that costs money, lots of money. And you know damn good and well that the democrats have blocked many attempts to secure the border, to prevent those crossings and further they sent a message to those desperate people south of our border that, hey its really okay to sneak across the border, we’ll help you stay here, just vote for democrats.

The stupid selfish democrats in Congress are absolutely part of this problem! The soft on border control, the resistance to ICE, etc., sends the wrong message and contributes heavily to this mess. They (dems) know exactly what they are doing. But, they don’t care nearly as much about the children or the other illegal aliens as they do about making Trump look bad. Another dead kid on the border is just more trips to the soap box for them! A dead kids makes for a great headline and then they lie their asses off about who is responsible! They are sly hypocrites aren’t they?

If the dems really cared this traffic jam at the border it would have been fixed many months ago, but they won’t work with Trump! So Chris, if you support the democrats and then you turn a blind eye to a crisis, you are failing to do your duty as a good citizen. I want both the dems and GOP to get this fix…now!

I strongly feel that dems in Washington don’t really care about gambling with the immigrant lives on the border just to make Trump look bad. THEY ARE DENYING THERE IS A CRISIS. Then they turn around and exploit every sad incident that comes up, like a child dies for lack of hydration. That’s sick and why you can’t see what they are doing is beyond frustrating – open your eyes! The dem are in this mess just as much as the GOP and Trump, don’t kid yourself. But, what is worse they are in effect aiding and abetting law breaking and risking our national security with a porous border. Sanctuary cities, open borders, free healthcare, etc., ..what a foolish and misguided idea this is.

If the government knows it does not have adequate staffing, funding, or facilities to hold this many people…than they shouldn’t be holding this many people.

You disagree with this. You are saying that they should still detain thousands of immigrants even if they do not have the ability to do so humanely. So what you end up saying here is that these kids’ lives are less important than enforcing strict border control. That it’s better for them to die in our custody than to bypass our country and get into the country illegally.

I will never agree with such an authoritarian belief. In fact, I find it monstrous.

The Trump administration knew they did not have the funds to catch, round up, and detain as many illegal immigrants as they wanted to while also keeping them in humane conditions. That was the point. The cruelty is the point. They want inhuman conditions to discourage others from crossing. That was the stated motive of the family separation policy: to scare already terrified, fleeing people into fleeing somewhere else. “Our country is full,” tweeted a president who was elected by the regions of our country where cattle outnumber people.

Democrats are right to not give a single cent more to the border—the Trump administration says it will be used to give the kids more humane conditions, but after years of Republicans arguing that the government never spends money the way it says it’s going to, you are seriously arguing we take his word on this? Absurdly hypocritical, Jack. The money will simply be used for even more brutal enforcement of laws that do little but keep good, hard-working people out.

If someone poses a serious threat to this country or its people they should obviously be deported, but most of the people being held come nowhere close to that criteria. There is a crisis alright. It’s a humanitarian crisis and while both parties are responsible—Obama was much harsher on immigrants than Trump or you liked to admit back when he was president, before you decided to move to the “Obama did it too!” strategy after years of portraying him as too soft on immigrants—it is your president who ran on treating immigrants more harshly than ever before, and has kept that promise. You cannot seriously get mad at the media or the left for acknowledging that he’s kept that promise.

Here’s 4 brilliant statements made by the democrat leader of the House. Makes you wonder if she’s not senile:

1.) In 2013, Pelosi told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that spending wasn’t a big deal, and it could be offset by raising taxes. But in explaining her belief, she said, “It’s almost a false argument to say we have a spending problem.” Almost false? Just four years later, the national debt rose to $20 trillion. She said, “The cupboard is bare – there is nothing left to cut.” STUPID
2.) Pelosi is bad with numbers and names, often calling President Donald Trump “President Bush.” In 2009, while pushing a stimulus bill to counter the recession, Pelosi said, “Every month that we do not have an economic recovery package, 500 million Americans lose their jobs.” At the time, the U.S. had just over 300 million residents. STUPID
3.) Pelosi sold Obamacare big time — and she did so before its full implementation in 2012: “And everybody will have lower rates,” she told NBC’s “Meet the Press,” speaking of premiums. And how about this comment on Obamacare, “We’ll have to pass it to see what’s in it.” STUPID
4.) But the next year, the National Republican Congressional Committee noted she defended the fallout from Obamacare at a press briefing: “I don’t remember saying that everybody in the country would have a lower premium.” LIAR and STUPID

        • Chris says:

          1) is a completely defensible opinion. A person could just as easily call your insistence on never raising taxes on the rich “stupid.” Her point was that we could address the deficit by doing that instead of cutting spending on social welfare programs. She also addressed changing out spending priorities in that interview.

          2) She misspoke and corrected herself immediately. Here’s the full context that you left out in order to mislead your readers:

PELOSI: But in terms of what we have to do in the first 100 days, we must address the needs of this country. Five hundred million people will lose their jobs each month until we have an economic package.

          WALLACE: No, 500,000.

PELOSI: What did I say, million?

WALLACE: Yes, 500 million. That would really be a recession.

PELOSI: Oh, no. Excuse me. Thank you for correcting me.

          https://www.factcheck.org/2009/02/now-thats-an-unemployment-crisis/

As for calling Trump “Bush,” she’s old. Trump misspeaks just as regularly; he said he was passing sanctions on Ayatollah Khomeini, who died thirty years ago, just the other day, and you said nothing. So your critique of this is disingenuous and hypocritical.

          3) Saying that “everybody” would do better under the ACA was obviously an overly optimistic promise, to the point of stupidity. You got one! But it’s the kind of politician-speak that is sadly typical of all our elected leaders—including those on your side. So yes, this was stupid, but it was not uniquely stupid.

“We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what’s in it” is another phrase that you are taking out of context. This one I don’t blame you for, though—your right-wing media has been taking it out of context for years.

You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention–it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting.

But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.

Your right-wing media took that one phrase and twisted it to make it sound like she was saying she had no idea what was in the bill and that no one could know until it was passed.

In context, it is clear that what she means is that there had been so much misinformation about the ACA (much of it spread on this very blog—remember how many times Peggy and Tina defended the “Obamacare bans mammograms for women over 50” lie here?), and that once it was passed average Americans would see that the horror stories weren’t true. The only stupid thing about this quote is how she didn’t anticipate that the level of dishonesty and bad faith conservatives were engaged in during the Obamacare fight meant they would intentionally twist her words to make them sound like she was saying something other than her clear meaning.

          4) Sure. But again, not the type of lie that is unique to Pelosi at all.

I wonder if you’ll chronicle some of the 10,000 false and misleading claims Trump has made and analyze their level of stupidity. There is no competition. Pull the stick from your own eye before calling out the grain of sand in others’.

The ones responsible for mistreatment either at the border or enroute are the PARENTS who dragged the kids along on their quest to break our laws.

      • Chris says:

First, you have no idea what you would if you were in their shoes. These are people seeking a better life for themselves and their children. They would not take this risk without a good reason.

Second, the fact that they are breaking laws does not justify mistreatment and abuse. Would you say someone jaywalking or speeding deserves to be shot or beaten by the police? Ugh, I forgot who I was talking to—you probably would.

        • Post Scripts says:

Chris, we heard from Jake Tapper, Nancy Pelosi, AOC, Chuckie Schummer, Chris Cuomo…there was no border crisis! This is a “manufactured” crisis. Don’t you remember, it was all over the news back in January. 4 months later at least Cuomo came to his senses and admitted, yes, there was a crisis…Trump was right. Finally the democrats are allowing some funding to relieve the problem on the border that they in large part caused.

Here is an extreme example of the lying stupidity coming from the left: During and interview on Monday night, leftist Rosie O’Donnell defended socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) false claim that the Trump administration is operating concentration camps on the southern border and claimed without evidence that there are “over 100,000” concentration camps “in nearly every state.”

But, it’s not just celebrity idiots saying stupid stuff about the border crisis, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries says Trump is, “using the children as pawns!” In what freaking way is Trump doing that? Support your claim or be exposed as just another hate monger. I won’t even go into all the stupid stuff that AOC has been saying. But, I find it comical that so many liberals are believing her and dopes like Jefferies.

          • Chris says:

Rosie O’Donnel is an idiot celebrity. The difference between my party and yours is that we don’t make our idiot celebrities presidents. Her claim that there are over 100,000 camps is not even the most ridiculous conspiracy theory she has floated. Her and Trump are two peas in a pod that way and have been since before their legendary media feud. If you’re more concerned about her lies than his I don’t know what to tell you.

I don’t remember Tapper saying there was no crisis at all. Here’s a CNN segment introduced by him which adds context to the crisis claim:

            https://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2019/01/08/lead-tom-foreman-dnt-trump-fact-check-jake-tapper.cnn

The past few years have seen periods of spikes in the number of refugees and others attempting to cross the border—many doing so in order to immediately seek asylum, which is LEGAL. But it has also seen periods of relatively low immigration. Trump has been not distinguished between these periods at all and has been claiming a “crisis” since the moment he announced his campaign, even though he announced during a period of low immigration.

In addition, Trump has inaccurately painted it as a crisis of crime and terror. As the CNN piece makes clear, this is misleading. Again, your critique lacks context. I do not blame Democrats for saying there was “no crisis” because it’s clear in context they were referring to the manufactured crime wave that Trump made up, not to the conditions of the people fleeing their countries—conditions Trump does not care about and has intentionally made worse in order to punish people he sees only as “lawbreakers” and therefore outside the bounds of humane treatment (remember his “joke” to police that they should be tougher with suspects and bang their heads on the police cars at the time of arrest? The man does not believe in due process.)

As for calling the camps “concentration camps,” as I said before, if you are more offended by the terminology used to describe them than what’s actually happening inside them, I refuse to sympathize with your offense. There is historical precedence for referring to them this way, although there is division in the Jewish community over whether this makes light of the Holocaust or fulfills the promise of “Never again” by bringing light to the horrors happening in these places.

As for Democrats being responsible for the crisis—no. If Democrats had our way we’d be letting a lot more of these people in. The refusal to consider this by Republicans is based on the myth that we can’t afford to do so. It’s costing us $775 a night per child to keep them in these camps—previously they were let go and given a court date, which the DOJ says most reported to. At the very least we could return to this policy instead of Trump’s zero tolerance.

As for using the kids as pawns, I already alluded to this—must I spell everything out for you? Trump is insisting that the kids will be treated better if we just give him more money to spend on enforcement. Only an idiot would believe this. Again, they have the money now to treat these kids humanely. They are choosing not to. People are donating toothbrushes and soap only to be turned away. This is not a matter of money, it is a matter of choice. The cruelty is the point.

I challenge anyone here to make sense of this word salad:

“Europe treats us worse than China,” Trump said. “Europe is — you know, look, I come from Europe [Trump is actually from Queens, New York]. We come — you come from Europe, okay, you’re of the European nations. European nations were set up in order to take advantage of the United States.”

But AOC is the problem. Sure. Whatever helps them sleep at night.

      • Harold says:

I am with J on this one. I would add J’s and my take, “is a completely defensible opinion”, (I read that comment/argument somewhere recently) and we could call the ‘in their shoes’ or ‘jaywalking’ position as a pointless political argument meant to inflame the situation.
Or we could call it”stupid” if that term suits you better. (Read that point as well)

Democrats are stone walling a problem that provides a goal toward illegal entry into the U.S. , and in doing so, our point is one of the sad end results of this mistreatment toward children by their parents, because the democrats are leaving the border so porous.

What the democrats are not doing to prevent this child abuse from happening, to me, is on the edge of indifference toward a problem, maybe because they hope to find a potential voter base because of their lack of resolve toward the issue of illegal entry.

Meanwhile the honest immigrants who respect the laws of America, do so legally by going through the Naturalization process by which U.S. citizenship is granted to a foreign citizen or national after he or she fulfills the requirements established by Congress in the Immigration and Nationality Act.

And doing so legally because it is a law.

        • Chris says:

Harold, crossing the border to seek asylum is legal. And yet our government is detaining such people in harsh conditions instead of giving them a court date and lying about their rates of return in order to justify this treatment.

          https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/06/26/how-many-migrants-show-up-immigration-court-hearings/

I do not understand how someone who claims to be in favor of “small government” can support this and not see the logical inconsistency. Nor do I see how one with such a view can believe that if we just pass more laws or build more barriers or use harsher force, the government can stop desperate people from trying to build a better life in the greatest country in the world. You don’t believe the government can stop people from having guns–and on this point, the right has convinced me–so why do you believe it can stop this type of immigration? As far as I know no one here has ever answered that question even though I’ve posed it many times.

          • Post Scripts says:

Chris said, “Harold, crossing the border to seek asylum is legal.” No its not!!! According to the UN and our treaties with Mexico and South American countries, asylum seekers must go to the nearest border offering refuge (that would be Mexico) and apply there! But, they are not doing that are they? No, because it’s not about safety and asylum – it’s all about money and these people are dragging their little kids 2000 miles across Mexico to sneak in here where they can earn the big bucks compared to wages in Central America. That isn’t right and you know it.

Geez Chris will you ever get it?

          • Chris says:

No its not!!! According to the UN and our treaties with Mexico and South American countries, asylum seekers must go to the nearest border offering refuge (that would be Mexico) and apply there!

This is a lie, Jack. You have been lied to. There is nothing in international or American law that says asylum seekers must apply in the first country they arrive in.

            https://www.humanrightsfirst.org/resource/mexico-safe-refugees-and-asylum-seekers

            Please retract this lie.

That isn’t right and you know it.

This is cynical and unpatriotic. Can you really not imagine a single reason why an asylum seeker would prefer to seek refuge in America rather than Mexico? Given how much this blog talks about the horrible conditions in that country, I am confident that you can. But you are choosing not to because it makes you feel better to assume the worst motives of these people. If you can do that, you can paint them as the bad guys as stop sympathizing with them because they aren’t like you.

You know America is a safer country than Mexico but you chose to ignore that so you could cling to the narrative that the only reason they’d prefer this great country is greed…How can you not see that? You are falling for propaganda and refusing to think critically so that you can shut down your empathy.

          • Post Scripts says:

The European Court of Justice (ECJ), supreme court for the European Union (EU), has ruled that would-be migrants must seek asylum in the first country they reach.

CNN, one of the many media outlets reporting on the ruling, says this: “The European Union’s top court has ruled that refugees must continue to seek asylum in the first European country they reach, even in exceptional circumstances like the migrant crisis of 2015.” What they should have said is “especially in exceptional circumstances like the migrant crisis of 2015”, because it is during crises that having bright-line guidelines to follow become most important.

The ruling surprised many because the EU’s advocate general had recommended otherwise, but it should not have, because it is founded on something called the “Dublin Regulation” which embeds the premise of seeking asylum in the first point of entry into EU law. The Dublin regulation itself, though, is merely the EU’s codification of an already established principle of international law that is reflected in the United Nations Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees.

In practical terms, as the media have pointed out, this means that the aliens who entered certain countries of the EU “irregularly” from other EU countries during their ongoing mass migration to Europe from the Middle East, Near Asia, and Africa can be removed back to the first EU country entered. In context, this means that Croatia will likely soon be receiving thousands of intended asylum-seekers from Austria and Slovenia (and who knows where else?).

Given that the EU, fractious though it has become (especially over the migrant “crisis” that has lasted for years now due to ineffective action to stop it), sees itself as a kind of single “super state”, the ruling is a bit odd since it penalizes those countries within its membership who have the unique misfortune to be on the front lines of the EU’s external borders — while leaving untouched Germany, whose leader Chancellor Angela Merkel almost single-handedly turned a trickle into a flood when she unilaterally declared that her nation would accept without reservation or upper limit all who chose to come. (The predictable consequence of her thoughtless words is reminiscent of our president Jimmy Carter’s “open hearts and open arms” policy that resulted in the Mariel boatlift.)

          • Post Scripts says:

Chris you have directly and indirectly said many offensive things about my me, but none of those slights have a nexus to what I was actually saying about immigration. On the contrary, my contention, well not mine, but the law here is very reasonable.

We have international law that has set the global standard for asylum and we have our own immigration law that mimics it and so does Europe. We must have such a law if we to be called a sovereign country. A sovereign country has laws and borders and we (as citizens) have a right and a duty to follow the law of the land and to protect our borders from unlawful invasion.

We have a duty to insure our nations security first before the security of other nations or individuals, this comes with being a sovereign nation. We have established a legal process, a time tested legal process, by which people from other countries can immigrate to America. We generously allow a huge immigration quota, one that exceeds any other country that I know of, that is 675,000 per year and sometimes more because they can bring in close relatives. As of 2017 we had 47 million immigrants living here. We are incredibly generous when it comes to immigration. Further, we also have a time tested process for emergency immigration…asylum! That process is now being abused as a loop hole and its clogging the court system and costing us billions.

The reasoning behind asylum law was sound and in most cases it worked. Just because there is a stampede of people who want to living in the country we built, we should not let asylum be abused, lest those who really deserve it can’t get it!

Those who have legitimate reasons, reasons that are clearly defined by law, will not have speedy access to our courts, because the system has been log jammed by people cutting in line, lying about their reason to enter. And why? Just to avoid doing what every other regular immigrant must do to enter legally. That is no different than calling for an ambulance so you can get a ride to the hospital and avoid standing in line to get your sore throat treated. Truly sick people are put at risk because of the cheaters. Well that’s not right and neither is not claiming you are an asylum seeker at the Mexico border just so you can march to the next border (USA) and claim it there.

If we open the Southern border to everyone this nation will be unbalanced demographically and we will see many sub-cultures spring up. This means assimilation will be spotty. It means we will not be prepared to assimilate those masses as we have in the past, we will open ourselves up to greater risk of disease, poverty, drug abuse and crime. WE HAVE SEEN this already in those places overrun with illegal aliens. This has already had a disastrous consequence on healthcare, schools, prison overcrowding, affordable housing, pollution, on the court system, on police on neighborhoods and the costs to the taxpayers. But, you see none of this. Your vision is only focused for moment on two drowned bodies in the Rio Grande – THATS OUR FAULT?

In your eyes ( or liberals looking to exploit a tragedy) it is. Actually, its Trumps fault, right? Ah and there it is! This is really about de-throning the president isn’t it? If Obama was President or some other democrat was president, those two bodies in the river would be very sad. A newspaper in the local area might cover the story and life would go on. But, with Trump in office why this is a national disaster! It is a humanitarian crisis of unbearable proportions. What is happening on the border under Trump is exactly like the systematic slaughter of Jews of in Nazi Germany! I’ve heard that said Chris, by your elected representatives! Yes – they said we’re running CONCENTRATION CAMPS because we have no heart, no regard for poor down trodden masses. Trump hates those people so he has cleverly devised a dastardly plot to lure innocent people from Central America to their deaths, getting them to jump in our Rio Grande river where we know they will die. but if they somehow make it across then we’ll kill them in our concentration camps!!! This is the same tired old tactic that the liberals have used for decades. We’re out to deny little kids school lunches, we out to kill grandma and grandpa, because we’re the evil rich, the 1% that is exploiting and starving the masses! The liberals love it when a tragedy comes along that they think they can blame it on somebody they hate…like the GOP, but mostly TRUMP right now. They have went totally bonkers and will do anything to destroy Trump at this point.

I’m just sick of all this stupidity… it’s beyond my ability to reason with such absurd nonsense anymore. I need to take a few days off.

          • Chris says:

Jack, unless we joined the EU while I wasn’t looking, I have no idea why you seem to think that ruling supports your false claim that asylum seekers must seek asylum in the first safe country they arrive in before seeking it in America. You also have not supported the idea that Mexico is a safe country and how that comports with your coverage of the country for the past decade.

As I said earlier, Trump promised harsher treatment of immigrants and he’s delivering on that. You can’t complain about media double standards now. You gave up that right when you spent years calling Obama too easy on illegal immigrants. During those years it was me who was pointing out the harsh treatment immigrants were actually suffering under, not you. I too wish the media had spent more time documenting these abuses under the Obama administration, and I said so at the time. But that did not fit either side’s narrative. Yes, the mainstream media saw fit to portray Obama as accommodating to immigrants. But so did you and the right-wing media. To blame liberals only for this is ridiculous, especially as Trump is the one who put this issue in the spotlight from Day 1 of his campaign. And, as I’ve explained, conditions under Trump are worse.

I’ve also explained that we do have the money and resources to process these immigrants and asylum seekers faster and more efficiently. The Trump administration has chosen not to do this. They have blocked ports of entry, separated families with no real system of tracking them, and have spent money and resources chasing families instead of dangerous criminals. This is, again, a self-made crisis.

Your fear of demographic change gives the game away. If anything interferes with assimilation it’s the fear of deportation. Of course when a community fears that, they will self-segregate. You cannot stop people from immigrating any more than you can stop people from getting guns, booze, abortions, or drugs. An easier and more efficient path to citizenship is the best thing we can do to reduce the demand for illegal immigration and get these people integrated into our society. But that doesn’t fulfill the punitive instinct so it won’t be accepted by conservatives.

          • Post Scripts says:

Chris, I was talking about international law, not just the EU, did you miss that part? NEXT: I have no demographic fear, NONE! What I do have is a reasonable, fact based, common sense concern about demographics that mirrors our traditional immigration policy and laws. Without that concern how in the world do think we will ever assimilate other cultures into the great melting pot of America?

If you don’t get why this nation has a concern for demographics, then your critical thinking is called into question. You are not thinking logically, you are thinking emotionally. WHY OH WHY do you think we have an immigration policy that employs demographics? WHY do you think all the world nations have an immigration policy that reflects demographics? My God Chris, I think there are times that you are being deliberately dense and it’s just exasperating.

By the way, if you are reading in English now you can thank our veterans and our great melting pot. If you are hearing Spanish spoken during a presidential debate on national TV, you can thank liberals.

Jack … you just said it … you are AFRAID of being displaced by Spanish speakers. Own it.

But the actual estimate of the current surge (and result of Trumpian policy) simply does not justify your fear.

We could take in another 2 million … and you would not be displaced. You are being irrational, and you support failed policy, and you are very irritating.

” My God Chris, I think there are times that you are being deliberately dense and it’s just exasperating.”

Jack, stop. My sides are hurting.

          • Chris says:

“I was talking about international law…did you miss that part?”

I did somehow, even though you bolded it. My bad, Jack.

But here is the bolded section:

The Dublin regulation itself, though, is merely the EU’s codification of an already established principle of international law that is reflected in the United Nations Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees.

Do you notice that this is too vague to be truly meaningful? In what way does the new regulation “reflect” a “principle” of international law? Doesn’t such a weak statement imply that there is no actual requirement in international law that asylees seek the nearest safe country? If such a requirement did exist, why would such a regulation be necessary? And is this fact, or merely CIS’ opinion of how they interpret the “principles” of international law? CIS has a stated interest in reducing not only illegal immigration, but also legal immigration, and they campaign on taking in far fewer refugees than we do now–why should I trust their opinion here?

So I’ll need an actual quote from international law proving that asylees have to apply in the nearest safe country before I accept CIS’ interpretation of the law’s “principles” as fact.

I’d also need you to explain how Mexico qualifies as a “safe country” when you’ve spent the last several years claiming otherwise.

Without that concern how in the world do think we will ever assimilate other cultures into the great melting pot of America?

I just explained that loosening immigration laws would make assimilation easier. Criminalizing it simply creates an underclass that hides in the shadows. You are not going to be able to get this class out of the country. The best we can do is a path to citizenship.

Libby, thanks for that link. It was a great reminder. Screwtape actually makes a valid point when he refers to the false notion of equality in a democracy, wherein he notes with sarcasm “I’m as good as you.” It sells well with the unwashed masses, but not so good in actual practice. A Jeffersonian ideal, but not one shared by Hamilton.

If anything my advancing years have revealed that Hamilton was more right than Jefferson, at least in his assessment of human nature. The masses are incapable of self-rule because it quickly turns to mob rule. The polite term for this today is populism. The dems are using the masses expertly to forge their hold on power and meet their unicornian goals.

Better that the whole thing was run by those who have a vested interest, who have proven their worth and earned the right to become a legislator and then lead by good example. Things earned are things valued, right? Hamilton thought the vote should be earned, not given. Why should an uniformed, uneducated person’s vote be the equal of a well informed, well educated and well reasoned individual? That’s why C.S. Lewis comically wrote “I am as good as you.” It’s an obvious jab at the fallacy of democracy.

Ah, and to prove Hamilton’s point, just look at what we have done with our vote, especially in CA! Look at these fools that we’ve elected, Pelosi, AOC, Schummer, Ms. Pocahontas, Jerry Brown/Gavin Newsom, Maxine Waters, the list is long … total dunces all. But, here they are leading the mob while the GOP struggles to fight back tepidly using reason, facts and honesty. Faint whispers against a LOUD and ANGRY populace movement. And these corrupt fools on the left are winning by the only way they know how, thru race baiting, fear, straw dogs, class warfare, demagoguery and their best weapon – promises of something for nothing. All dictators throughout history rose to power this way. They begin by usurping the wealth of the industrious minority thru confiscation and taxation to finance their Hellish plan.

      C. S. Lewis – what a guy. Thanks Libs.

Do you trust the government to decide who is well informed and well educated enough to vote? You don’t see that tool being used to discriminate against, say, the poorly educated Trump voters that Trump said he loves?

Second, do you realize literacy tests were ruled unconstitutional? Do you understand why?

  2. Libby says:

“… promises of something for nothing.”

This is a lie. Progressive promise the equitable distribution of pooled resources, NOT something for nothing. This is how you describe it … to discredit it … and avoid saying will really bugs you about it … the pooling.

Lordy, but you will piss me off !! You wanna be selfish, be selfish … but don’t lie about it.

    P.S. … I knew you’d take the bait.

    • Libby says:

‘… when he refers to the false notion of equality in a democracy, ….’

Just to be clear, again, … you misunderstand.

“It will never occur to them that ” democracy” is properly the name of a political system, even a system of voting, and that this has only the most remote and tenuous connection with what you are trying to sell them,”

… that is, I’m as good as you.

Democracy is not the fallacy, Jack. It’s the “I’m as good as you” which is bogus.

How is goes is: I live under a system that affords me the personal liberty to become “as good as I am able to be”.

But then: “Hidden in the heart of this striving for liberty there was also a deep hatred of personal freedom.”

And this bit always reminds me of Tina, who not only clutches at her chains, but insists that everybody else wear them.
