Oroville Says No Thanks to Needle Exchange Program

by Jack

The Oroville City Council saw what is happening in Chico and other cities in this state and they said, no thank you to this needle and drug paraphernalia giveaway program being  pushed on us.   The council decided to pass an ordinance making it difficult to distribute needles to drug addicts and I say, good for them!  I wish our council had the intelligence and backbone to do that.

One proponent said the following regarding the needle giveaway and this is a typical liberal: “We are talking about a very small amount of money that will save lives.”  The old guilt trip…just a little bit of money….will save lives…. Really?  I don’t see how giving needles to junkies saves anyone.  We’re asking irresponsible drug addicts to use needles responsibly, right?  Okay, let me ask you this, is there any evidence that says the addicts are disposing of needles properly?  That’s a pretty simple and reasonable thing to ask, isn’t it?   The answer is a big N-O… these dirty needles are being found all over town, from playgrounds to parks.   So much for cooperation and gratitude to the public for saving them.  And what is the risk to community to have dirty needles around our town?  I’m all out of sympathy for junkies and I have no end of compassion for the decent people who pay taxes, work for a living and want a safe and friendly city.  It took a lot of effort for druggies to get this low point in the life, but they have ruined their lives though years of bad choices and  now we’re suppose to care?

This is a bit rough I know, but it might work:  We offer people two paths.  First, we offer a decent shot at rehab to get clean and have a fresh start.  But, if they go back on the drugs, then its a one way trip out of the country.  They can be dropped off on a beach in Somalia or somewhere, but, their time on the street in the US is now over.  Enough is enough.

Market Bounces Back, Sorta

by Jack

The stock market recovered some of it’s losses today from yesterdays dramatic 2000 point plunge, but we’re not out of the weeds yet.  Typically, when we see the market go into gyrations like this it signals a down market for the next few week or even months, depending on how we manage the corona virus and other things.  This seems to be the largest threat to our economy at the moment.

I know we are getting oversold signals on individual stocks, but be wary.  If you just have to buy a bargain stock right now I would strongly suggest you do so by averaging in.  I usually make 3 equal buys on price dips over a certain time.  Again, for me, this time period would be about 3-6 months. (See dollar cost averaging)  Good luck and happy hunting.  Oh, and if its just a killer deal, let us all know!  I could use the money!

Fake News Strikes Again!

by Jack

The  following story made national news, a black man was being denied his right to vote, even though he was the mayor of the town!  No wonder it made news, this is shocking!  It’s un-American… how could this happen?

This was fake news twisted to read like a juicy story of discrimination against black folk.    And a lot of low information people will believe this was a clear case of racism, because the truth was buried deep into the story.   The truth was, a poll worker had entered the mayor’s name in the wrong order, his first name went in last, so the name search didn’t work.  There was no discrimination and the election wasn’t rigged.

The mayor knew there was no conspiracy and so did the media. The poll worker made a mistake.   But, the mayor and the fake news people created misleading headlines, so mission accomplished!

“Moments after making a plea for people to get out and vote in the Missouri primary Tuesday, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas was turned away from the polls and told he “wasn’t in the system,” the mayor said on Twitter.

“I made a video this morning about the importance of voting and then got turned away because I wasn’t in the system even though I’ve voted there for 11 years, including for myself four times!” Lucas said.

Lucas tried to cast his vote before 7 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church at 22nd and Olive streets, where he said he has voted since 2009.

Missouri Democrats were headed to the polls Tuesday to choose a nominee for president. More than twenty names were listed on the ballots, but the chief contenders were expected to be former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

When Lucas tried to vote, a poll worker searched his name using a utility bill he brought but came up empty as if Lucas wasn’t registered.”

Stocks Plummet Like It Was 1929

by Jack

Today’s 2000 point drop in the stock market was very predictable given the gyrations last week over the corona virus and the squabble between the Saudi’s and the Russians over crude prices.    But, the bargain hunters are asking where does it go from here?  My bet is the market is still inflated.  I see it retracing another 6-8% or more.   We are by no means clear of the continuing damage to the economy caused by this virus.  The Saudi/Russian tussle should help consumers with low crude prices as long as production stays high and that should offset some of the corona damage, but it won’t help refiners, drillers and suppliers, they need high crude to stay in the black, pun intended.

Felix Baumgartner stepped into the void nearly 128,000 feet (39,000 meters) above southeastern New Mexico Sunday at just after 12 p.m. MT (2 p.m. ET, 1800  GMT), then landed safely on the desert floor about 20 minutes later. His harrowing plunge shattered the skydiving altitude record, which had stood for more than 50 years, and it notched a few other firsts as well.

During his freefall, for example, Baumgartner became the first skydiver ever to break the sound barrier, which is about 690 mph (1,110 kph) at such lofty heights. And this happened on a special day — today is the 65th anniversary of the first supersonic airplane flight, which was piloted by American Chuck Yeager in 1947 aboard the Bell X-1 rocket plane.

“I know the whole world is watching now, and I wish the world could see what I see,” Baumgartner said just before the leap. “And sometimes you have to go up really high to see how small you really are.” [Photos: Skydiver’s Makes Record 24-Mile Supersonic Jump]

Preliminary results of the jump showed Baumgartner spent about 4 minutes and 20 seconds in freefall (a record without a drogue parachute). His maximum speed was 833 mph (1,342.8 kph), said Brian Utley, an air sports official watching over event.

The jump’s top speed was thus Mach 1.24 — considerably faster than the speed of sound. Applause and cheers erupted in a post-jump press conference as Utley relayed the good news.

White House – Seniors Should Avoid Going on Cruises

“If you’re a senior citizen (over 70) with a serious underlying health condition, this would be a good time to practice common sense and to avoid activities including traveling on a cruise line,” Vice President Pence said, adding they were looking to cruise line officials for action, guidance and flexibility with those passengers.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar suggested older Americans and those with health problems should avoid crowds “especially in poorly ventilated spaces.”

Speaking on “Fox News Sunday,” Fauci said people with underlying conditions — particularly those who are elderly — should take steps to distance themselves from the risk of infection, including avoiding crowds and long plane trips “and above all don’t get on a cruise ship,” he said.

From Dust to Compost

posted for your amusement by Jack

According to KCRW, a California lawmaker is pushing legislation that would allow families to compost their loved ones and turn their remains into soil, a process called human composting.

“I would love to be a tree one day,” said Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens) and chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Climate Change Policies, who introduced Assembly Bill 2592 to allow for human composting. “This service will provide an additional option for California residents that is more environmentally friendly and gives them another choice for burial.”

Supporters say human composting doubles as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as it saves the equivalent of one metric ton of carbon compared to traditional burials or cremations.

“With climate change and sea-level rise as very real threats to our environment, this is an alternative method of final disposition that won’t contribute emissions into our atmosphere,” said Garcia.

The state of Washington became the first state to allow human composting when Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee signed a law last year permitting the practice and allows families to forgo traditional burials and cremations in favor of so-called human composting. The law goes into effect in May.

Supplies Running Out as Virus Advances….pfffft

by Jack

It’s like a run on the banks in 1929.  Silly people, fearing shortages are suddenly buying up all kinds stuff and causing empty shelves.   It’s all over an irrational fear that this corona virus is coming like the Black Plague.  Well, it’s not even close to the plague and what people are doing is just plain foolish.  We’ve been through far worse than anything this flu virus can throw at us.

There should be no reason for toilet paper to be out of stock, except that the panicked hoarders bought up 2 years worth of supply in the last 3 days.   This would be comical if it were not so pathetic.

By all means be prepared, but lets be reasonable!

Slow Voting on Election Day

by Jack

Voters up and down the State of CA reported agonizingly long waits to cast a ballot, in some case the delay was over 5 hours.  In Chico the typical wait time was about 1.5 hours.  But, why?

Didn’t the State just spend 200 million dollars on improved voting machine to make voting more accessible?

Well, yes they did, but the new machines were prone to breakdown and about 30% of them went down in minutes and could not be made to work again.  In other words the State spent a lot of money buying junk.  Can you believe that this state-wide system had not been tested before election day?

A lot of people involved in this boondoggle should have some explaining to do, but likely nothing will happen, because that’s just the way it is in CA.   Sure, some county officials are hopping mad and calling for an investigation…but, it will never happen.

The bottom line, the  system these machines replaced worked, the new machines… not so much.  200 million bucks wasted.

ELECTION RESULTS

by Jack

As you might have expected, CA was a clean sweep for Bernie Sanders and his give-away socialist agenda.

Bernie’s popularity makes me believe CA must be like a magnet for the dumbest, greediest and most rabid libs to be found anywhere.

Now the election results:
