Obama On Letterman – Debt Not a Problem

by Tina Grazier

Our President made another appearance on Letterman’s show last night and made an ass of himself stating the debt was not a problem in the short term and amazingly that he couldn’t remember what the debt was when he took office even though he called the debt “unpatriotic” and “irresponsible” while campaigning against McCain (Bush) in the ’08 election.

Letterman put in his typical ignorant performance and asked, “Here’s what I found troubling [at the Republicans’ convention]…They had the clock, the debt countdown clock and, I mean, this thing is going like crazy and it’s several trillion dollars. Now, what is that?”

What is that? Does he believe the Republicans were demonstrating something inappropriate or inaccurate?

The set up is Obama’s chance to blame someone else (once again refuse to take responsibility for the past four years of trillion dollar debt increases):

Do you suppose the media will even mention this irresponsible and unpatriotic attitude? So far the Washington Post, Huffington Post, PJ Media, Real Clear Politics, and FOX News are reporting…but I see none of the outrage expressed yesterday when Mitt Romney acknowledged that nearly half of our nation will vote for Obama.

The President not only flip flopped on his debt position, “unpatriotic”, “irresponsible”, he also demonstrated a total lack of concern for every single citizen of this nation now and into the unforeseeable future! What a putz!

The debt clock hit sixteen trillion on the first day of the Democrat national convention.

The debt clock now stands at $16,040,211,000,000…and rising fast. Follow the link and check it out…every moment it goes up in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Another rating agency has recently warned of another downgrade for the United States, see here and here. America has never been downgraded in all of the years before Obama took the helm. The United State of America has “plummeted” to number 18 in the World Economic Freedom ranking:

…the United States, once a “standard bearer” of economic liberty among industrial nations, spiralled 10 spots from the 2011 rankings to 18th place — its lowest position ever, and a huge drop from its second place spot in 2000.

Our debt may not be a big deal to the President but it is a very big deal in terms of the people of the United States of America. Every one of President Obama’s budget proposals have been a trillion dollars. At the rate this man’s spending occurs (addition of Obamacare just one concern) in order to look like a hero to the little guy (free contraception for every woman) the American worker is increasingly unable to produce enough to meet our obligations, see here and here.

The future belongs to our children. What future do you want them to have?

There are two options in this election and for many elections to come:

THE DEMOCRAT VISION: High taxes on business and the rich and redistribution of that wealth by big government bureaucracies that decide who gets what and how much regardless the amount of debt it imposes on future generations or the ability of workers to produce.

THE REPUBLICAN VISION: Low taxes for everyone spurring economic growth in the private sector to create opportunity in the work force, opportunity to save for the future, and opportunity to give to others as we can. Low taxes to increase the tax base and increase revenue flowing to government so that a sustainable path can be created in the nations budget.

The President has demonstrated that he has no sense of fiscal responsibility whatsoever. He confirms it by shrugging off debt as long as he can blame others without being called on it and without being held accountable.

Choose wisely in November America! We can’t take four more years with a popular boob in the White House.

Who Said That?

Anyone want to hazard a guess about this quote? From whence did it come?

We ask that the government undertake the obligation above all of providing citizens with adequate opportunity for employment and earning a living. The activities of the individual must not be allowed to clash with the interests of the community, but must take place within its confines and be for the good of all. Therefore, we demand: … an end to the power of the financial interests. We demand profit sharing in big business. We demand a broad extension of care for the aged. We demand … the greatest possible consideration of small business in the purchases of national, state, and municipal governments. In order to make possible to every capable and industrious [citizen] the attainment of higher education and thus the achievement of a post of leadership, the government must provide an all-around enlargement of our entire system of public education … We demand the education at government expense of gifted children of poor parents … The government must undertake the improvement of public health – by protecting mother and child, by prohibiting child labor … by the greatest possible support for all clubs concerned with the physical education of youth. We combat the … materialistic spirit within and without us, and are convinced that a permanent recovery of our people can only proceed from within on the foundation of the common good before the individual good.

Answer below the fold.

Ballot Proposition 30

Proposition 30 is currently ahead in the polls – could spell disaster for California’s economy if it passes. The yea side is outspending the nay side by a margin of 30 to 1. Unions make up bulk of the support money.

Increases personal income tax on annual earnings over $250,000 for seven years.

Increases sales and use tax by cent for four years.

Allocates temporary tax revenues 89% to K-12 schools and 11% to community colleges.

Bars use of funds for administrative costs, but provides local school governing boards discretion to decide, in open meetings and subject to annual audit, how funds are to be spent.

Guarantees funding for public safety services realigned from state to local governments.

Arguments against:

The arguments in opposition to Proposition 30 presented in the state’s official voter guide include:

There is no guarantee in the way it is written that the money would be used for schools. Thus, opponents say, it is a “$50 million shell game.” To buttress this argument, opponents quote the California School Boards Association, which in May 2012 said, “the Governor’s initiative does not provide new funding for schools.”

“Nothing in Prop 30 reforms our education system to cut waste, eliminate bureaucracy or cut administrative overhead.”

Instead of supporting education, the new tax money raised by Proposition 30 will really go to “backfill the insolvent teacher’s pension fund.”

“The Governor, politicians and special interests behind Proposition 30 threaten voters. They say ‘vote for our massive tax increase or we’ll take it out on schools,’ but at the same time, they refuse to reform the education or pension systems to save money.”

“Politicians would rather raise taxes instead of streamlining thousands of state-funded programs…look at what they just did: politicians authorized nearly $5 billion in California bonds for the ‘bullet train to nowhere’, costing taxpayers $380 million a year. Let’s use those dollars for schools! Instead, the politicians gave us a false choice — raise sales taxes by $1 billion per year and raise income taxes on small businesses OR cut schools.”

Other arguments that have been made against Proposition 30 include:

The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association conducted a “Don’t Sign the Petition” campaign, urging people to decline to sign the petition. On their website devoted to encouraging people not to sign the petition, they said, “Petition gatherers may tell you their measure is to increase school funding. But simply put, It’s a Tax Increase!

California is already a poorly managed state. We have a $15 billion budget deficit – a result of overspending – $500 billion in unfunded pension liabilities, a tax and regulatory climate that drives businesses away, wasteful and ineffective use of our tax dollars and a political system unduly influenced by special interests. We do NOT need higher taxes. Join us by telling everyone you know not to sign Jerry Brown’s tax initiative.”

The income tax will be retroactive back to the first of the year (2012), a fundamentally unfair ploy that would not be tolerated if it happened to you as an individual.

California is already a very high tax state. We already have the 2nd highest state income tax rate, as well as THE highest state sales tax rate.

If approved, CA will be by far #1 in income tax rates. We will be 21% higher than the 2nd highest state (Hawaii), 34% higher than the 3rd highest state (Oregon), and FAR higher than all the rest – including seven states with zero state income tax.

Proposition 30 is opposed by columnist Debra Saunders, who says, “I fear [it will] drive golden geese out of the state. Sure, most families earning $500,000 or more aren’t going to move over a lousy $5,000, but moguls who make 20 times that and own multiple homes just might decide to migrate. And there go all their tax dollars.”

Some people who generally support tax increases in California say that they have problems with the specifics of Proposition 30. An example of this is Molly Munger, who says, “You sort of hope that the Democrats are the party that stand up for investment in children and in education. Those are two bedrock principles of the Democratic Party. It is a little bit ironic that so many elements of the Democratic Party are, you know, supporting an initiative that does not invest in the main engine we have for social mobility and opportunity in our society, which is our K-12 schools.”

Another example is columnist George Skelton, who says, “Brown wants voters to believe that all the billions raised by his tax hike would go to K-12 schools and community colleges. They won’t. And he knows that as well as anyone.”

Iranian’s Claim Patrol Boat Can Cruise at 92 mph??

6794-iranianboat-thumb-348x194-6793.jpg

Iran’s 1,150HP Zolfaqhar mass-produced speedboats can cruise at 80 knots (92 mph) and launch anti-ship missiles. Fast and nimble, they supposedly can bypass Raytheon’s Ship Self Defense System (SDSS) by attacking US heavyweight warship in swarms from several directions concurrently. Given the horsepower and weight it’s virtually impossible for any boat to reach 92 mph, especially on the open ocean. To cruise at 92 mph is guaranteed impossible. Iran lies. My guess is the boat can probably reach a top speed of about 60 mph, which is considerable giving the payload, weight and horsepower.

Romney “Outed” Telling the Truth

6597-mitt-romney.jpg

The Daily Caller claims it was Jimmy Carter’s unemployed grandson who unearthed the Romney video causing a stir this morning:

Former Democratic President Jimmy Carter’s “looking for work” grandson, James Carter IV, is claiming credit for a leaked video of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney dismissing voters loyal to President Barack Obama as people “dependent on government” who “will vote for the president no matter what.”

Mother Jones has the video; and transcript of the remarks:

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax. … [M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

I’ve got to get to an appointment this morning so I don’t have time to comment further but you might enjoy the take over at National Review…I agree with them that Romney should own this video and double down. His remarks go to the heart of the path America is taking and it will destroy our country unless we begin to reverse the trend…a trend Obama embraces and feeds for his own power and pocket.

A Story About the Waltham Watch Company

by Jack

6786-waltham1918a-thumb-225x273-6785.jpg

Don’t ask me why, but for some reason I just like old pocket watches. They’ve been out of style for almost 50 plus years, but I still think they are very cool. I currently own just 4, A Hamilton, two Walthams and an Elgin. They’re not very rare, but I enjoy looking at them. I’m thinking I would like to start looking for more to buy, just as a hobby. Anyway, this got me thinking about American pocket watches and I thought you might enjoy a little history on one of the companies, Waltham.

Prior to 1850 most pocket watches were made one at a time by highly skilled craftsman, then along came the Waltham Company and they wanted to change watchmaking (horology) to mass production, making them affordable to average man. (women would have to wait for their watches for a few more years) The founders, David Davis, Edward Howard and Aaron Lufkin Dennison had the idea of assembly line production long before Henry Ford.

Unfortunately, their first attempt to mass produce was very problematic. Because watches are very precise instruments and just slight variations in tolerance could keep it from running properly, almost every watch coming off the assembly line still required a good deal of tweaking by master craftsman. This threatened to ruin the whole concept of mass producing the parts.

6789-Waltham 1918-thumb-200x122-6788.jpg

But, finally they got their machines up to speed and it started to come together, unfortunately this was also just in time for a major US depression! Waltham went under, only to resurface under a new name, Appleton Tracy and Company in 1853. As I recall it was sold at auction for about $110,000, this bought a huge factory and all the inventory.

Waltham Improvement Co. merged in January 1859 with the Appleton, Tracy & Co. forming the American Watch Co. and then the Civil War broke out in 1860 and once again production was halted.

After Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address, he was presented with a “William Ellery”, key wind watch, Waltham Model 1857, serial number 67613. This watch is now in the collection of the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

6792-steamtrain54-thumb-255x197-6791.jpg

Shortly after this time Waltham became the main supplier of Railroad watches (chronometers) thanks in part to the rapidly expanding railroads and the critical need for very accurate time pieces to avoid accidents:

On the morning of April 19, 1891 a fast mail train, known as the No.4, was going east. On the same track an accommodation (passenger) train was going west from Elyria, Ohio. The Engineer of the passenger train thought he was leaving on time, but did not know that his watch had stopped for four minutes and then started again. The conductor apparently did not check his watch.

The two trains met head on at Kipton, near Cleveland Ohio. The fast mail train was at full speed (60 mph plus) and the other train was under full brakes and slowing. 11 were killed in the worst US train wreck to date. The United States Post Office as well as both railroad companies suffered great financial loss. It was due to this disaster that a RR commission was appointed to develop standards for railroad timepieces that would be adopted by every US RR.

Waltham and the Elgin Watch Company became the principle suppliers of what is now commonly called “railroad grade” pocket watches for most train companies in North America and in many other countries of the world. Typically these were 21 and 23 jeweled watches and they were the most accurate time pieces of their day.

Anti-American protests continue throughout the Middle East, Indonesia, while Muslim leader reportedly sought in Tunisia

Hundreds rallying around an anti-Islamic film continued protests throughout the Middle East Monday, burning cars and throwing rocks at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan, torching a press club and a government building in northwest Pakistan and clashing with police outside the U.S. Embassy in Indonesia. Police also tried to arrest a hardline Muslim leader — reportedly wanted for violence in Tunisia — who escaped after hiding inside a mosque in Tunis.

The protests were the latest in a week-long wave of violence sparked by the low-budget film, which portrays Islam’s Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, a womanizer and a child molester. Many of the incidents have targeted U.S. diplomatic posts throughout the Muslim world, including one that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya, forcing Washington to ramp up security in select countries.

Coping with Protest – Hollywood Leads the Way

Posted by Tina

The big shot star power elites in Hollywood have always been strong supporters of free speech and expression. They spit contempt whenever anyone brings up the subject of censorship. But when Obama says a Muslim movie caused Muslim mayhem artists in Hollywood tow that line!

Bette Midler has come out in support of Obama excuse making by calling for prosecution (censorship + prosecution+ blacklisting) of the obscure film maker:

Bette Midler cast aside freedom of speech earlier this week by saying the filmmaker responsible for the anti-Muslim movie in the news should be charged with murder.

Midler isn’t alone in shoving aside the First Amendment.

Both hip hop mogul Russell Simmons and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” musician Questlove are siding against free speech. When you’re an unabashed supporter of President Barack Obama, party loyalty trumps the right to create, apparently.

Ordinary citizens may be confused…Andrew Klavin at PJ Media offers help:

Andrew Klavin: How to Behave During an Islamic Massacre

Klavin has a point. Filmmaker Bill Maher bashed the Muslim religion for twenty minutes at the end of his film, “religulous”. There have been no Muslim uprisings as a result and to my knowledge no calls for his arrest and prosecution. In fact he is regularly applauded and rewarded with laughter. The President had nothing to say about it being unhelpful.

Which reminds me…if the film was responsible for inciting anger how does it help the situation that his mouthpieces are all over the networks insisting that the movie is to blame for the protests…the movie made them murder our ambassador! Might as well invite them to continue. And why does the administrations story conflict with others out of the ME?

Daily Mail reports officials in Libya warned US officials three days before the attack on the embassy:

A Libyan security officer has claimed that he warned American diplomats about the possibility of violent unrest three days before the attack on the U.S. consulate which left the ambassador dead along with three others.

The country’s president also says that the deadly raid in Benghazi was ‘pre-planned’ by Al Qaeda and other ‘foreigners’.

However, the U.S. has hit back at that suggestion, with a top diplomat insisting the attack was ‘a spontaneous – not a premeditated – response’ to violence elsewhere.

Then there’s this, but warning, the site contains video with graphic content:

http://theulstermanreport.com/2012/09/16/video-proof-of-obamas-embassy-attack-lies-warning-graphic-content/

Lies, confusion and doubt…a little laughter with Klavin helps but ultimaely we have to sort it out before November and decide whether we give a damn about our freedom and security.
