Marijuana and Lung Cancer

American Cancer Society Reports on Marijuana Use and Cancer:

There are some reasons to think that marijuana smoking might increase lung cancer risk. Many of the cancer-causing substances in tobacco are also found in marijuana. Marijuana contains more tar than cigarettes. (Tar is the sticky, solid material that remains after burning, which is thought to contain most of the harmful substances in smoke.) Marijuana cigarettes (joints) are typically smoked all the way to the end, where tar content is the highest. Marijuana is also inhaled very deeply and the smoke is held in the lungs for a long time. And because marijuana is a mostly illegal substance, it is not possible to control what other substances it might contain.

But those who use marijuana tend to smoke fewer marijuana cigarettes in a day or week than the amount of tobacco consumed by cigarette smokers. For example, a light smoker may smoke half of a pack (10 cigarettes) a day, but 10 marijuana cigarettes in a day would be very heavy use of marijuana. In one study, most people who smoked marijuana did so 2 to 3 times per month. The lesser amount smoked would make it harder to see an impact on lung cancer risk.

It has been hard to study whether there is a link between marijuana and lung cancer because it is not easy to gather information about the use of illegal drugs. Also, many marijuana smokers also smoke cigarettes. This can make it hard to know how much of the risk is from tobacco and how much might be from marijuana. In the limited studies done so far, marijuana use has not been strongly linked to lung cancer, but more research in this area is needed.

The birth of the newest victim class. F’um, let them rot.

What happened to choice and Liberty?

The chemicals in our food being processed overseas causes cancer.

Prescription drugs kill but the drug companies account for the lawsuits pay the families and still make billions.

The supreme court said a Generic drug can kill someone and they have no right to sue.

The Tea Party was started with Koch and Tobacco money.

Point is we eat cancer causing agents all day long and no one seems to care about that.

People get cancer from the materials at their workplace and especially in the military and no one cares about that.

Picking and choosing is not OK.

A person who smokes knows what they are doing.

A person who eats in a restaurant has no idea what chemicals are in the food.

Fukushima has done more harm than that and not a peep cause there is nothing they can really do.

Fact is Cancer is on the rise for many many reasons and that is why we have regulations.

The TPP will remove those regulations and our food and products will be cancer causing anyway. There is lead in children’s toys from China. Profit before people means you can not pick and choose it’s one side or the other.

So enjoy life and allow others to make their own choices. That is Liberty

This issue does not get much play, and I’ve always wondered about it. My Granny, a pack-a-day girl for 50 years, once took a toke off my uncle’s joint. We thought she was gonna seize and die right then. Seemingly, pot smoke is much harder on the lungs than ciggy smoke.
