Did Trump say Something Racist about Baltimore?

by Jack

President Trump recently tweeted a response to Congressman Elijah Cummings.  Cummins has been unrelentingly in his criticism of Pres. Trump.  Trump had enough and fired back:   “….As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded.  Cummings District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”

In what way is this statement racist?  For that matter how is it not true?  I’ve been there and as an eye witness I can tell you Baltimore is filled with corrupt politicians who squander millions of dollars in federal grant money every year.

Yes, there are rats on the streets, sidewalks and alley ways.  There are bums, gangs and trash everywhere.  It is is a very dangerous place to be as crime stats prove.  It is my opinion that Baltimore makes Oakland look clean and we all know what filthy rat hole that place is.  In a survey of our 30 largest cities Baltimore was the deemed the most dangerous.

Then Baltimore Mayor Jack Young weighed in on the exchange, and he did not mince words.  Young called it “completely unacceptable” for POTUS to say such negative things about the city.  In other words, HE CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH.

“As the Mayor of Baltimore, I won’t stand for anyone, not even the alleged Leader of the Free World, attacking our great City or our representative to Congress.”   Lets take a look at Baltimore’s greatness:

From the Baltimore Brew – 2015: “…after an hour-long litany of Council members’ complaints about the city’s endemic trash, rampant rat problems and concerns about the effectiveness of street and alley sweeping. The agency had also announced that it would be ramping up its proactive rat abatement efforts. (didn’t happen)

Councilman Warren Branch was in rare form, going on a tirade about mattresses in the median strips and piles of trash in his district. He invited Public Works Director Rudy Chow to get in the car with him and go on a trash ride-along.”  Trash and rats have been a decades old problem.

CRIMEBy any measure of systemic urban collapse, Baltimore is, as Trump said, “very dangerous & filthy.” Among the largest 30 American cities, Baltimore has the highest crime rate, and is a close second to Detroit for the highest rate of violent crime. But for murders, Baltimore is second to no other city, with more than 50 homicides per 100,000 people. That puts Charm City in the ranks of Jamaica, Venezuela and El Salvador in terms of lethality.

Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police President Left ‘Speechless’ By Commissioner’s Crime Plan – Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison hoped to address this crisis with his recent crime plan, but Baltimore City FOP President Mike Mancuso said it will do little to help. First and foremost, they don’t have the staff – they don’t even have enough officers to respond to all 911 calls. That’s not to mention their lack of other resources.

In Mancuso’s statement you’ll also get a glimpse of his feelings toward Commissioner Harrison. Mancuso says he was left “speechless” by Harrison’s claim the city isn’t all that bad.

“This leads us to Commissioner Harrison’s recent public assertion that Baltimore is not a dangerous place; a comment which left me speechless,” Mancuso wrote. “For him to try to alleviate the public’s fear of being a victim of violent crime by stating that most suspects and victims know each other, is outright fantasy.”  (Harrison is a democrat)

Trump started his feud with Baltimore officials after House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) confronted border patrol agents at a recent round of hearings. The president tweeted directly at Cummings, suggesting that the congressman focus on his struggling Maryland district instead of trying to upend his administration’s policies.

The fact is that Trump talks differently about black and Hispanic poverty than he does about white poverty. The white poor are the “forgotten man” who need a hand up, while poor people of color are referred to in dehumanizing language. Chris Wallace rightly raised that point this Sunday on Fox News with Mick Mulvaney:

Wallace: “No human being would want to live there.” Is he saying that people in Baltimore are not human beings?” …You say it has zero to do with race. There is a clear pattern here, Mick. Before his inauguration, the president tweeted about John Lewis, a black congressman … that he should spend time in his “crime-infested” district. Then two weeks ago he goes after these four members of the Squad ― all women of color ― and says they should go back to the “crime-infested countries from which they come.” Then he talks about Elijah Cummings and says his district is “rat and rodent infested.” Infested. It sounds like vermin. It sounds subhuman. And these are all six members of Congress who are people of color.

Mulvaney: I think you’re spending way too much time reading between the lines.

Wallace: I’m not reading between the lines. I’m reading the lines!

Mulvaney: Does anyone watching this program dispute the fact, or the possibility, that if Adam Schiff had said the same thing about the border that the president would be attacking Adam Schiff in the exact same way today?

Wallace: I don’t think that he’d be talking about his crime-infested, rodent-infested district.

Mulvaney: He very well could have.

But he doesn’t! This is racially charged language, as I’ve been explaining to you for years.

But even if you still don’t believe race has anything to do with it, how can the President of the United States constantly trashing cities because their elected leaders criticize him? This isn’t a leader trying to come up with solutions to help those in need…these are the spiteful rantings of an angry man who only wants to lash out and hurt those who have hurt his ego. Note also the hypocrisy: Trump tells Americans of color who criticize certain aspects of this country to go back where they came from, but he is free to criticize whatever parts of the country didn’t vote for him in extremely nasty terms. Another layer of hypocrisy is that his own son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has a reputation as a Baltimore slumlord whose own buildings appeared to be, to use the president’s term, “rat-infested.”

But you won’t hear about that in the right-wing media that tries desperately to shield this corrupt president and his corrupt family from criticism. There is no defending the president’s increasingly divisive tweets. Even if you pretend that they aren’t racially divisive, you cannot say they aren’t divisive, and intentionally so.

Another half-baked, silly and nit-picking invention from the witless, radical, sjw demagogue. *Sigh* “The fact is that Trump talks differently about black and Hispanic poverty than he does about white poverty.” The fact is you and yours are full if s***.

Chris is so cute when he dons his holier-than-thou progressive robes.

      • Chris says:

Chris Wallace is a “witless, radical, sjw demagogue?”

You cannot rebut the fact that Trump talks differently about black and Hispanic poverty than he does about white poverty. People have searched through his tweets and found that he only uses the word “infest” when he’s attacking people of color. “Infestations” literally goes back to Nazi propaganda about Jews.

It never fails to blow my mind how much modern conservatism seems to depend on the idea that racist dogwhistles just do not exist.

  2. Pie Guevara says:

Yet another demonstration of how twisted, degenerate and corrupt the MSM is. Is there really any doubt they are little more than an absurd, laughable propaganda arm of Democratic Party? Despicable, disgusting yet amusing. Much like the DNC Presidential candidates and their “debates.”

Still I believe these yellow “journalists” are hanging themselves and the Rat Party in the process and ultimately will be hoisted by their own petards. Trump is going to steamroll these crapulous scum in 2020.

  3. Cherokee Jack says:

I’ve heard claims there are 50 words in the Eskimo vocabulary for snow.
I think the word racism has a variety of meanings.
Today the most common use of the word racism is when a liberal hears the truth about the fruits of liberalism. Examples include Trump describing the disastrous effects of liberalism on places like Baltimore, Detroit, etal. It also is used to counter crime statistics on murder and various violent crimes.
It’s also widely used to counter just about any attempt to enforce laws regarding murder and various violent crimes, and also includes established immigration laws.

Any time annoying or unacceptable facts get in the way of Progress, the word is used as a rallying cry, a political slogan, or, if shouted loudly, to drown out any opposition.
There’s a slightly different form of racism used to describe the uneasiness felt at the sight of a group of six-foot tall fifteen year old boys with tattooed faces and trousers at half mast, headed in one’s direction on a narrow street. Surprisingly, even the staunchest liberals can experience that one.
Then there’s the racism that, although relatively rare, is often claimed to be the most prevalent. That’s the racism held by low IQ types with various psychological hang-ups and an overwhelming need to feel superior to someone.
Racism can also be a great way to get rich. Al Sharpton could give classes on that one.

  4. J Soden says:

    Consider the source of those “racist” claims . . . . . .
Today’s new definition of “racist” – Anyone who has the intelligence or temerity to disagree with the rantings of those who are so far Left they are unable to make a right turn.
    Guess I’m a racist, then . . . . and won’t lose any sleep over it.

  5. Harold says:

C.J. comment of : ‘Today the most common use of the word racism is when a liberal hears the truth about the fruits of liberalism’ is to the point of the Trump hate sindrome we hear on a daily basis. It is liberals that can’t handle the truth”, to paraphrase Nicholson’s character.

Baltimore is by any standards a decaying city, the current left civic leaders promise to improve conditions during campaigns, get seated and forget. But that is typical of most. Like Jack points out even past city elected officials have made the same reference to the problem, and it has only gotten worse. But why address a declining habitation of a city with positive action, not when you have Trump to defeat and attempting to stop his pointing out the deficiencies of a liberal controlled Government and it’s lack of resolve.

President Trump has had to use harsh language two fold, first it brings to light the conditions by creating a negative media retort to his words, and second it creates a need for liberals to work on the issue while it is in the public eye.

As Jack reported, It has been clearly pointed out past officials of Baltimore have identified the same problem and spoken out about it, but it the same observation by Trump reported in national media that brought the hate filled left to attention, and put them on defense about bypassing their own indifference of the issue.

Good for Trump, at least he is not willing to accept no American citizen should be forced to live under those conditions.

And given the way California is heading (or arrived) it Includes our own P.S. ‘Bay area braying Liberal’ defending a sanctuary city filled with defecation and needle in the streets and sidewalks, but they do bring on themselves don’t they!

Another example of our Liberal elitist ignoring problems here in America while they create a ‘bull $hi! verbal stonewall’ about the border instead of a real wall to detour illegals. But it is all about votes to them , not American citizens welfare.

  6. Peggy says:

Those who know Trump say he’s not a racist and those who don’t know him say he is. I’ll believe those who have first hand experience over those who use name calling as a political weapon.

Where did the $16 BILLION go given in 2018 alone? It sure didn’t go to help those poor people. How many pockets did it end up in? Why didn’t Cummings do something years ago? Why didn’t Cummings meet with Ben Carson yesterday to tour the disaster area?

    Alveda King:

Lynne Patton: President Trump Has Given $16 Billion to Baltimore:

    Ben Carson:

FBI raides Baltimore mayor’s home, city hall and businesses.

Where did the $16 Billion in US Grants Given to Baltimore in 2018 Disappear to?:

  7. Libby says:

Ah, the Google … I love the Google …

It was so freakin’ easy … I laughed my booty off for three whole minutes.

And now we will discuss the placement of “rat infested” on the scale of racist-dog-whistle verbiage …

    My vote: #3

After “welfare queen” and “crime infested”.

  8. Libby says:

    See this?

And so I was reminded … of Ronnie’s Welfare Queen … who was considerable more than that: a con artist and an ostensibly unconvicted murderer. Was it really fair to compare her to women afflicted with economically worthless males? I don’t think so.

But that’s what racists do. What is the difference between a rat-infested Baltimore and a rat-infested Chico? Is there one?

    Only to a racist.

  9. Chris says:

What positive actions did Trump suggest in his tweets? A reminder that Trump’s attacks on Cummings were not in response to any discussion about Baltimore; they were simply retribution for Cummings’ criticism of border patrol. Trump literally admitted this. Now we aren’t talking about the legitimate concerns Cummings brought up about our treatment of immigrants, we’re talking about whether Cummings’ district is really rat-infested or not. That’s insane! When did it become normal for presidents to just…talk trash like this? Whenever Trump doesn’t want to acknowledge someone’s criticism he just goes for the gut on a completely unrelated issue. Imagine if Obama had responded to Paul Ryan criticizing the ACA by trashing his district and bashing him personally rather than engaging with his argument. That would have set your hair on fire. But Trump is allowed to trash any city he wants to…and we’re expected to think race has nothing to do with it? Come on.

    • Chris says:

This was meant as a reply to Harold. Boy, the commenting feature here is out of whack lately.

BTW, Jack, you refer to Elijah Cummings as Elijah Hastings multiple times in your first paragraph–even when you directly quoted Trump. The man is dumb enough, you don’t need to put wrong names in his mouth to make him look even worse.

  10. Chris says:

    Your president today:

“CNN’s Don Lemon, the dumbest man on television, insinuated last night while asking a debate “question” that I was a racist, when in fact I am “the least racist person in the world.” Perhaps someone should explain to Don that he is supposed to be neutral, unbiased & fair,………or is he too dumb (stupid} to understand that. No wonder CNN’s ratings (MSNBC’s also) have gone down the tubes – and will stay there until they bring credibility back to the newsroom. Don’t hold your breath!”

Imagine if Obama had said this about Glenn Beck after Beck accused him of being a racist. You’d demand impeachment.

Also, you gotta love Trump calling someone else stupid while displaying once again that he has no idea what punctuation marks or quotation marks are for.

Our country can’t take more of this embarrassing clown show. The world is watching.

  11. Peggy says:

Speaking of racism. Did you all hear the DCCC cleaned out the white top staffers the other day? Yup, they weren’t diverse enough because of their skin color no matter how many years of experience they had. Sure sounds like a party in chaos.

These are all for Chris’ benefit, so he doesn’t accuse me of lying again.

    • Chris says:

      From the first link:

“Bustos promised Congressional Hispanic Caucus lawmakers Tayhlor Coleman would be reassigned out of the DCCC’s minority outreach program after conservative website the Washington Free Beacon unearthed her 2010 tweets that disparaged the LGBTQ community and Mexican immigrants.”

I’m not seeing the problem here, Peggy. Is it that, were she in the Republican Party, she’d receive a promotion for this?

    • Chris says:

From that and the third link, it seems like there were lots of problems with Bustos’ leadership, and the DCCC is trying to frame the issue as one of diversity to appear “woke.” So while I wouldn’t say you’re lying about any of this, and I appreciate the links, I think your interpretation that forcing Bustos to step down is “racism” against whites is incorrect.
