Trump – Time for Us to Get Out of Syria

Trump Declares ‘Time for Us to Get Out’ of Syria as Republicans Object!

Donald Trump got “rolled” by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a National Security Council source with direct knowledge of the discussions told Newsweek

MSNBC – In a scheduled phone call on Sunday afternoon between President Trump and President Erdogan, Trump said he would withdraw U.S. forces from northern Syria. The phone call was scheduled after Turkey announced it was planning to invade Syria, and hours after Erdogan reinforced his army units at the Syrian-Turkish border and issued his strongest threat to launch a military incursion, according to the National Security Council official to whom Newsweek spoke on condition of anonymity.

The U.S. withdrawal plays into the hands of the Islamic State group, Damascus and Moscow, and the announcement left Trump’s own Defense Department “completely stunned,” said Pentagon officials. Turkey, like the United States, wants regime change in Syria. Russia and Iran support the Assad regime.

“President Trump was definitely out-negotiated and only endorsed the troop withdraw to make it look like we are getting something—but we are not getting something,” the National Security Council source told Newsweek. “The U.S. national security has entered a state of increased danger for decades to come because the president has no spine and that’s the bottom line.”

Newsweek granted the National Security Council official anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. The source said it would not be surprising to see a Turkish incursion in the next 24 to 96 hours.

This has caught the GOP completely by surprise and has lawmakers on both sides are screaming foul.  One leader after another is taking to the podium to condemn this action as ill-advised and foolish.   Sen. Lindsey Graham, said ”

Appearing on Trump-boosting morning show Fox & Friends, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was asked whether he supported the president’s move, prompting the hawkish Republican lawmaker to exclaim, “Absolutely not.”

“If I didn’t see Donald Trump’s name on the tweet, I thought it would be [former President] Obama’s rationale for getting out of Iraq.” he said. “This is gonna lead to ISIS’s reemergence!”

Graham went on to say this was a “big win for ISIS,” claiming that the Kurds in the area will align with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad because they’d have no choice due to the United States abandoning them. “So this is a big win for Iran and Assad,” he added.

    Excellent post Jack. (As usual.)

Personally, I would like to see us leave the Middle East to slaughter themselves as they see fit, but I regret abandoning the Kurds to these 6th century despots and religious fanatics with 21st century weapons. Perhaps we can embark on a mission to arm the Kurds to the teeth and stay the heck out it except for training and advisors.

A large part of the swamp has been embroiling the US in costly wars for decades in this god-awful region full of angry and violent Islamic thugs and Islamic thug chiefdoms. I have completely reversed my opinion in this regard compared to my opinions in the 2000-2010. Partly in thanks to Tucker Carlson and partly in thanks to George W and his horrendous handling of the second Iraq war.

While I have a great and abiding respect for Lindsay Graham, I disagree with him here. It is time to change the failed and expensive (in blood and treasure) policies of the past. Let us become the most feared arm merchants on the planet, not a bunch of suckers lured to try and solve the problems with Islam and all these despicable and despotic Islamic nations.

Nevertheless I will defer to Senator Graham if he can convince me his position is a better one.

    • Chris says:

Gurl, Lindsey Graham doesn’t even have a great and abiding respect for Lindsey Graham, which is why Lindsey Graham went from the most aggressive Trump critic on the right to being a complete lickspittle and toadie.

Which is, I am now realizing, the same journey you’ve taken.

      So never mind.

      • Post Scripts says:

Oh, I missed this bit of juvenile turd tossing from Chris.

“Gurl, Lindsey Graham doesn’t even have a great and abiding respect for Lindsey Graham, which is why Lindsey Graham went from the most aggressive Trump critic on the right to being a complete lickspittle and toadie.

OUCH! Ooooooh, that smarts! I wonder if Chris feels better now. Here Chris goes beyond mere Trump derangement syndrome and into the realm of straight up derangement. Chris, by way of venting his considerable spleen, has made some truly idiotic comments in Post Scripts, but this latest delusion must be one of his most stupid.

It is absolutely asinine and absurd to call Lindsey Graham a “lickspittle and toadie” much less a complete one. Senator Graham has always been — and shall always be — his own man. The truly astonishing thing here is how Chris completely ignores the fact that Graham just went against Trump on his Syria withdrawl! What part of that does Chris not understand? His comment is sheer lunacy, the man is completely insane. Unhinged doesn’t come close to describing it.

I guess it boils down to two things: 1) Lindsey Graham has said some favorable things to say about Trump in the past and Chris finds that unforgivable; and 2) Chris is a complete and utter idiot who is so full of bile and hate that he will say anything — no matter how stupid, moronic, and contrary to reality — just so he can stomp his feet.

I suppose I should be disgusted and alarmed, but I am not. I am pleased to see Chris double down on making a compete ass of himself in these pages. His mental anguish is well deserved and I find it delicious. Schadenfreude. Not even Quentin Colgan nor Dewey were ever so stupid as this. And those two gave some stellar performances.

  2. Peggy says:

I agree with Pie. I want our troops out and to support the Kurds and other countries to fight their own wars. We’ve lost enough of our own over there. Remember all of the able bodied Syrian men who left their families and ran to Europe?

Trump is just trying to keep another promise he made. He’s revised his past statements and I expect once the others get off their behinds and do what they need to do, he will again. He’s not willing to keep doing the same things that didn’t work for decades for past presidents. Shaking things up with a verbal two-by-four sure got their attention.

I’ll take a Trump type leader who fights back and tells us what he can, than another Obama who lied to us to get what he wanted, cut secret side deals with Iran we’ll never see and brags about his terms being scandal free while it was filled with them from Fast and Furious to Russian Russia Russia.

“Shall we look again at the double standard in news coverage between Obama and Trump? Given the rarity with which Obama’s peevishness was characterized as “lashing out,” you might think he was more of a happy-go-lucky fellow than a thin-skinned politician cunning enough early in his career to vote “Present” in the Illinois state Legislature whenever a “Yes” or “No” vote might have been problematic. If you believed Obama’s press clippings, you might wonder why his signature legislative achievement, the misnamed “Affordable Care Act,” passed without a single Republican vote. You might also wonder why he felt the need to brag that he had “a pen and a phone” as tools for, among other questionable things, bringing federal pressure to bear on the Little Sisters of the Poor and making end-runs around Congress to the tune of 276 executive orders.

Putting personalities aside for a minute, is an executive who counter-punches necessarily more vile than an executive who does not? Perhaps the one virtue of counter-punching from a moral point of view is that it happens openly. For all of its preening about being “scandal-free” (because there was allegedly nothing to see in weaponized IRS audits, in Benghazi, or with “Fast and Furious”), the Obama administration had a penchant for secrecy. You can argue that the Trump administration is not much for transparency, either (except when it functions as a clarifying fire), but one important difference between them is that Obama’s acolytes pretend to be holier-than-thou while palming their shivs, in much the same way that Hillary Clinton, in a hall-of-fame instance of psychological projection, once worried about whether Donald Trump would accept the results of an election she thought he would lose.”

    • Libby says:

“Putting personalities aside for a minute, is an executive who counter-punches necessarily more vile than an executive who does not?”

My God. Trump does reflect your values … and ain’t that a kick in the teeth.

Nice to hear you finally admit it, anyway. I mean, Geez! One who “does not” counterpunch … is a Christian … which you, demonstrably, ain’t.

      Ick.

  3. Peggy says:

Recommend watching Colonel Macgregor on Tucker Carlson’s show tonight. He explains the why of Trump’s recommendation to withdraw from Syria. Video not available at the time of this post.

  4. Joe says:

    Hey Jack,

You see this? What do you think? Is Crooked Hillary going to run? The Demonrats who are are either imploding or in the process of dying.

And you gotta love Trumps tweet. Drives those DemoNRats crazy!

This morning, President Donald Trump mockingly invited Hillary Clinton to run for president again in 2020, remarking, “Only one condition. The Crooked one must explain all of her high crimes and misdemeanors including how & why she deleted 33,000 Emails AFTER getting ‘C’ Subpoena!”

I think that Crooked Hillary Clinton should enter the race to try and steal it away from Uber Left Elizabeth Warren. Only one condition. The Crooked one must explain all of her high crimes and misdemeanors including how & why she deleted 33,000 Emails AFTER getting “C” Subpoena!

    — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 8, 2019

Clinton responded in a brief tweet this afternoon remarking, “Don’t tempt me. Do your job.”

Don’t tempt me. Do your job.

  5. Pie Guev ara says:

Re Lippy’s note: Uh, no … it isn’t. Politico has revived some vintage Lindsey … from 2016 … ages ago:

“During the 2016 campaign, Graham had called Trump a “nutjob” and a loser,” as well as a “race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot.” (etc.)

So, evidently, it is Libby’s position that Lindsey Graham is a lickspittle toadie of Trump because he at one time said some very nasty things about him.

That makes perfect sense. In Lippy’s world.

Good grief, there is plenty-o-stupid going about today. Chris has no corner on the market.

    • Chris says:

He has since said that it is ridiculous to call Trump the same things that he himself once called him. This is not hard to find.

      • Post Scripts says:

Reasonable people, unlike Chris, can change their minds.

        • Chris says:

Sure. And changing one’s mind to believing that Trump isn’t xenophobic after he’s banned citizens of whole countries from coming here, locked up children, and separated families in the name of cracking down on immigration is inexplicable, unless one is either compromised or a lickspittle.

          • Post Scripts says:

Pie here: It is an interesting fantasy world that Chris lives in, but kudos for a great job perpetrating the big fat lie that Trump was somehow singularly responsible for separating families and locking up children when Obama implemented that policy under his watch. Where was Chris then? With his head up his … ?

          • Chris says:

the big fat lie that Trump was somehow singularly responsible for separating families and locking up children when Obama implemented that policy under his watch.

This is a lie, as literally every single fact-checker in the world has explained. The family separation policy was announced and implemented under Trump by Jeff Sessions. While isolated family separations and detainments of minors happened under Obama (and I did criticize them then), this was not made the general policy until the Trump administration.

          • Libby says:

Jack, you really do embarrass yourself. A plum from Wiki:

            Attorney General Jeff Sessions:
Following Christian opposition to the policy, Sessions controversially defended it by citing the thirteenth chapter of the Epistle to the Romans in the New Testament,[234][316] saying “I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained them for the purpose of order.”[317] Several commentators have noted that before the Civil War, Romans 13 was traditionally used by advocates of slavery to justify it, and to attack abolitionists.[318]”

The TA is going down in history as particularly heinous. But thank god, at least, that we’ve likely seen the last of Jeff.

          • Post Scripts - Jack says:

Libby, what are you talking about? Not one word of this thing has anything to do with what I said. I never mentioned religious persecution, Jeff Sessions, the Bible, slavery… none of it. Where does this stuff come from? I’m worried about your mental health, maybe its time for a checkup? .

          • Chris says:

I think Libby meant that as a reply to Pie, Jack. Pie falsely claimed that the family separation policy was implemented by Obama, but in Libby’s quote, Jeff Sessions makes it pretty clear that he implemented it under the Trump administration.

          • Chris says:

Speaking of Sessions, the president once again went off on him today for not breaking the law by recusing himself from an investigation that involved himself:

“You look at what’s happening over at the Justice Department, now we have a great attorney general. Whereas before that, with Jeff Sessions, it was a disaster. Just a total disaster. He was an embarrassment to the great state of Alabama,” Trump told former adviser Sebastian Gorka in an interview published in the Daily Caller.

“And I put him there because he endorsed me, and he wanted it so badly. And I wish he’d never endorsed me.”

Trump’s entire criteria for what makes a “great attorney general” is whether they protect him. He even admits he hired Sessions because he endorsed him. That’s all he cares about.

But the defense against impeachment is that the president did not and would never make policy decisions based on personal favors rather than in the best interests of the American people. There’s a reason at least half of all Americans and a fourth of Republicans now support impeachment: no one believes this defense, not even the president himself.

          • Libby says:

Sorry … bleeped over the “Pie here:”

            However, we start with …

            Reasonably changing one’s mind about?

            Family separations …

            Instigated by Sessions …

Who was a member of the TA …

Makes sense to me … unless you don’t think Trump is responsible for the policies implemented by his administration?

That don’t make no sense either.

  6. Chris says:

Will Pie Guevara retract his disproven lie that the family separation policy was not set under the Trump administration?

Will Trump suddenly start speaking like a statesman who respects the office?

    • Post Scripts says:

“Set?” Sounds like a weasel word from a lying weasel. It is not a lie. Separation was in practice under Obama. I will be addressing this in a formal post.

      • Chris says:

Again: individual acts of separation happened under Obama. The official policy of “zero tolerance,” which separated thousands of children from their parents who were detained rather than excused with a court date as they were before, was set under the Trump administration by Jeff Sessions. This is a fact, as you would know if you consulted literally any fact-checker in the world.

        • Post Scripts says:

Pie Here: Yet another bald faced lie from the serial liar Chris. Under Obama separation of families and the detention of children was standard practice for illegals crossing the boarder, not “individual acts” whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. You are one sick person, Chris, grasping at straws.
