A serious response to the continued obsession with the whistleblower on the right from Jonah Goldberg, a leading intellectual on the right: Common sense also works against the president. If Trump were sincerely concerned about Ukrainian corruption, why has he never expressed similar concerns about corruption anywhere else? And, why, if the issue is Ukrainian corruption generally, did the Trump administration focus on the alleged corruption of a single Ukrainian firm, Burisma, where Biden’s son sat on the board?

    Where is he wrong?

    • Chris says:

Whoops, that wasn’t the whistleblower quote. Here it is: Trump and his defenders are still pounding on outdated, unpersuasive, or irrelevant talking points. They rail about the identity and motives of the whistleblower who first aired these allegations, even though the whistleblower’s report has been largely corroborated by others. They claim that the process of the Democratic inquiry in the House is unconstitutional, which is ridiculous. They insist that hearings where Republicans can cross-examine witnesses are a “star chamber” or reminiscent of secret Soviet trials. Also ridiculous.

    • Pie Guevara says:

Never Trumper Jonah has a point, but then he is not privy to any unexpressed activity of the Trump administration.

Jonah goes on to write —

“… the smartest Trump defenders are counseling the president to simply admit the obvious: There was a quid pro quo, and the president’s phone call fell short of perfection, but nothing he did is an impeachable offense.”

That is a fair analysis and the political show trial goes on.

Where is he wrong? Here —

“They [Trump defenders] insist that hearings where Republicans can cross-examine witnesses are a “star chamber” or reminiscent of secret Soviet trials. Also ridiculous.”

Jonah needs to review all the conditions imposed by Schiff for the public farce and remember that this farce was first carried out in secret.

Was it Trump that “focused” or is this entire discussion the result of the ongoing attempt to bring down the President, including by never Trumpers?

Trump has focused on working every hour of the day for the American people. His achievements in this regard stand as proof!

What have Democrats and never Trumpers done for Americans lately? Zip! Instead they play costly petty games and stand in the way of even greater progress!

I don’t understand the question, Tina. How could NeverTrumpers, or anyone else, make it look like Trump focused on Biden and Crowdstrike rather than Ukrainian corruption more generally? If Trump was truly concerned with corruption in Ukraine, wouldn’t he release evidence of that? For example, he claimed that he spoke to Zelensky about corruption in April, but the transcript he just released from that time shows no such discussion. Isn’t the most logical conclusion that, as Holmes testified today, Trump “does not give a s–t” about Ukraine beyond what they could do to benefit his 2020 chances?

Ditto. Welcome back Tina, we’ve missed you. Hope all is well with a new chapter of your life.

Bottom line is Schiff said dozens of times the whistleblower would be made available to the public and would answer questions from the republicans. Now, Schiff is claiming that based on a disputed law he must remain hidden and out of reach from any cross examination. What changed is the disclosure that the whistleblower had contact with Schiff’s team and probably Schiff himself. He won’t allow the disclosure of the whistleblowers name while at the same time swearing he doesn’t know who he is. If he doesn’t know, how would he know if it was disclosed?

Even a nine year old could see the gaping lie in this farce. And so can all the voters with any common sense. Wall Street sure didn’t fall for the clown show yesterday.

Bottom line is Schiff said dozens of times the whistleblower would be made available to the public and would answer questions from the republicans…

Schiff has never said this, and the whistleblower’s testimony is now irrelevant. The central [facts hearsay] in his report have now been confirmed [by with more hearsay from a] half a dozen witnesses. Stop trying to distract [me] from [that fact my bizarre delusion].

    Now for something truly funny:

Brent Bozell, a far-right extremist who believes himself an expert in media ethics, tweeting the following:

“Listen to Sondland and you’ll understand why America elected Donald Trump to get rid of people like Sondland.”

When it was pointed out to him that Trump hired Sondland, he deleted the tweet.
