Spotlight on Bernie Sanders

Is Sanders a loser, a phony, a fraud, who has never done much with his life except talk?   Many would say without hesitation yes, yes he is and quite obviously!  But, lets take a fair look at the facts and then you be the judge, ok?

According to several reports, Sanders didn’t collect a steady paycheck before being elected to office as mayor of Burlington, Vt., in 1981.  

Despite a 50 year track record, Sanders has never really done much or been good at anything, except talking about socialism.  However, if you ignore facts and don’t know your history, you might find him a compelling speaker.  

Bernie inherited a little money from his Dad when he was a young man and this allowed him to purchase a small piece of land with a shack on it that had a dirt floor. He lived in this shack with his first wife for about two years and then she had enough and left. Presumably she wanted a floor, but he couldn’t afford one.

Bernie managed to find part-time work and together with his inheritance money, he attended the University of Chicago where he graduated in 1964. Prior to running for office, Sanders worked a series of odd jobs that include: an aide at a psychiatric hospital, a freelance writer, a preschool teacher and a carpenter. He was recognized as a really bad carpenter.   Ironically,  he went from being very poor to a multi-millionaire without fulltime employment in the private sector and living off the taxpayer’s money.

Sanders was and has always been a hardcore leftist activist. He ran for local office a few times before winning.  He then used the local experience to run for Congress and then the Senate, as an independent.  

For his whole time in high office Sanders sponsored just 7 pieces of low level legislation that passed.  (Sanders served as senator from Vermont since 2007 and as U.S. Representative for the state’s at-large congressional district from 1991 to 2007)

H.J.Res. 132 (102nd): To designate March 4, 1991, as “Vermont Bicentennial Day.”

H.R. 1353 (102nd): Entitled the “Taconic Mountains Protection Act of 1991.”

H.J.Res. 129 (104th): Granting the consent of Congress to the Vermont-New Hampshire Interstate Public Water Supply Compact.

H.R. 5245 (109th): To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 1 Marble Street in Fair Haven, Vermont, as the “Matthew Lyon Post Office Building.”

S. 893 (113th): Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2013.

S. 2782 (113th): A bill to amend title 36, United States Code, to improve the Federal charter for the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.

S. 885 (113th): A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 35 Park Street in Danville, Vermont, as the “Thaddeus Stevens Post Office.”

It has been reported that Sanders did run for political office while collecting unemployment benefits in 1974. I could find no evidence that he ever collected welfare.

Most recently Sanders drew fire for a book deal where he allegedly used campaign money to purchase 500,000 copies of a book that he wrote. Here’s the link From Forbes:

Also, here’s the link to FEC filings showing: Bernie spent $444,937.50 of his campaign dollars on his book “Our Revolution”.

Sanders’ book royalties included a $505,000 advance on his book “Where We Go From Here,” which was published in 2018, Newsweek reported.

This is why he has so much income even though this book sold only 26,000 copies.

The publisher figured that since his book “Our Revolution” was a bestseller, then his new book would be one also.   But “Our Revolution” was a bestseller only because he sold the books to himself, using money donated to his campaign.

Somehow all of this doesn’t seem quite kosher. But it does explain how Bernie got rich by running for president.

SUMMARY: By traditional evaluations Bernie Sanders is loser. He’s only a good talker that is enamored with failed socialism. His best ideas are just plagiarizer from Marx and Lenin.  He’s never really been anything except a far left ideologue, selling socialist snake oil to ill informed and gullible voters.   If he becomes the democratic nominee for president Trump will likely use Bernie’s lackluster track record to shred him into oblivion.

      Sander’s chances of winning are of course slim to none, but the mere fact that this commie lovin, capitalist hatin pig was able to talk his way to the top of the ticket is alarming. What does that say about the voters of this country? The voters that support Bernie have generally been voting the least amount of time. They are underinformed, young adults and new American-Hispanics. However, the far left wing of Black voters support Bernie because it’s all about what America can do for them! This is how they have been raised in the dem camp. It’s about getting stuff without having to work for it (wealth transfer). This is corrupt institutional welfare created by dems. Dems have done this blacks for generations. The blacks have been exploited and duped by the democrats who have deliberately kept them down for all the wrong reasons. Thankfully this insidious practice of what dems have done and are doing to Black (and Hispanic) voters is becoming more clear. As these abused voters mature into informed and responsible voters the first thing they do is leave the DNC to vote GOP, independent, libertarian or some other form conservative base. To their credit this is despite the temptations the dems offer.

    At the Democrat debate, Bernie Sanders said that he wanted the federal minimum wage raised to $15/hr.

    $15 x 40 hr week = $600
    $600 x 52 weeks per year = $31,200

    Bernie Sanders was asked how he would pay for free healthcare for all. His answer was a 52% federal tax on anybody making over $29,000 per year.

    52% of $31,200 = $16,224 in federal tax
    $31,200 – $16,224 = $14,976, or your net after paying federal tax.
    $14,976 / 52 weeks = $288 per week
    $288 / 40 hr week = $7.20/hr

    Of course, there are also excise taxes, state taxes, and other misc. taxes that we all pay so the take home post-tax would actually be smaller than that.

            Asking that people not post fake news from peddlers like Charlie Kirk is not demanding “perfection.” And fake news is an issue that should be important to us all. I brought up a story I fell for the other day and took responsibility for it. I never even posted that story here. I do not see anyone else here take responsibility when they post fake news and this is far from the only time this has happened here.

    Now the above post was just for fun, although it is traveling the net.

    So far Sanders has only suggested a tax increase, but not in the 52% range (at least not yet 🙂 and not for those making over 29,000. a year.

    And those increases don’t seem to affect the comfortable amount he has amassed for himself.

      Thank you for correcting the fake news you posted, but I’m not sure what you mean when you say it was “just for fun.” A lot of people fell for this lie and nothing about it indicates it’s satirical. How is spreading lies fun?

    Bernie is first, last, and always for Bernie. He believes in nothing–with the possible exception of his own BS. He would pound the podium in favor of last week’s stale cow manure if he thought there was something in it for him.

    “He’s never really been anything except a far left ideologue, selling socialist snake oil to ill informed and gullible voters.” Yes! He is a master snake oil salesman who uses his two favorite sins, greed and envy, to fan emotional flames of any other loser who will listen to him.

    I have no doubt that when he was in the Soviet Union, he was quickly spotted as a “useful idiot” to be cultivated and deployed. And yes, the fact that he garners enough votes to even be on the ticket is what is really scary.

    Sanders is not only a threat to the Dem’s, (although I heard Pelosi said she could deal with it if Sanders won….. LOL) he is a threat to American values.

    As Jack has pointed out, the Dem’s have raised a crop of voters who fully believe they are entitled to what someone else has earned.

    This country wasn’t built by entitlement oriented people living off the backs of tax payers, but it surely could be destroyed by them.

    Looks like the Dem’s candidate for president won’t even be a Democrat. Says a lot about what a mess that party is in.

    A couple of years ago Bernie wanted a $15 min. wage and a closed border, now he wants an open border too. Can’t have both, but it will buy him more votes on a promise he has no way of keeping.

      Trump was a Democrat for most of his life and he became the Republican nominee for president with no government or military experience. What does that say about the Republican Party?
