Celebration of Freedom Awards

Posted by Tina

Tired of the shallow self-celebratory nature of most award shows? Looking for something a little more heartfelt and genuine? You need to read about the second annual Celebration of Freedom Gala and the awards given to honor those who have given of themselves for freedoms sake:

The Hollywood awards show not shown on TV, by Andrew Breitbart Washington Times

On Saturday, my wife and I were privileged to attend the second annual “Celebration of Freedom Gala.” We joined more than 1,000 others who, like us, were electrified to honor 43 of the 98 living Medal of Honor recipients. We also gave our thanks to former first lady Nancy Reagan, war hero and actor Charles Durning, and Gen. David H. Petraeus. **

How To Tell If You’re An Extreme Redneck

1. You let your 14-year-old daughter smoke at the dinner table in front of her kids.

2. The Blue Book value of your truck goes up and down depending on how much gas is in it.

3. You’ve been married three times and still have the same in-laws.

A Depression in 2009 Could Be Worse Than 1929

From the UK’s, Market Oracle…

Not Your Grandfather’s Depression – It will be much worse, in many respects.

The chart below, borrowed from Dr. Marc Faber’s Market Commentary December 1, 2008, is devastating. The chart shows a stunning loss of $30 trillion stock market wealth around the world. By some estimates, combined losses in commodities, stocks, bonds, real estate are greater than $60 trillion. This is beyond rescue.

It is virtually impossible to overstate the dire consequences resulting from the severity of the declines recently experienced in almost all asset classesfrom both a technical and fundamental viewpoint. From a fundamental perspective US consumers had come to rely on borrowing against growing asset prices to sustain their lifestyles. Most of today’s globally-interconnected economy was based upon growth in the US consumption. This game has ended badly. Asset dependency will eventually be replaced by living off of income and savings, but not after we escape from this disastrous period. As unemployment rises income generation will become increasingly difficult, and we cannot begin to save until our mountainous debt is paid off. For most of us, this is the equivalent of the world being turned upside down on our heads.

EMPLOYMENT FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW

From the 5 Minute Forecast, ( http://www.agorafinancial.com/5min/ )

Employment will make or break this depression. Today, its not looking so good. 12.5 million Americans are out of work, and counting. Heres the quick and dirty on the rest of the employment numbers this morning:

The economy shed 651,000 jobs in February, right in line with Wall Streets expectations. Thats the 14th month in a row of net job losses January and December jobs losses were revised down heavily. January was bumped down another 57,000 jobs, to a 655,000 loss. And the BLS altered Decembers by more than 100,000, to a 59-year high of 681,000 lost jobs. (Proof that these guys either put the numbers wherever they want, or that they arent very good at keeping track) Thus, over 4.4 million jobs have been lost since the official beginning of the downturn in late 2007.

The official unemployment rate is up to 8.1%, thanks to those revisions a 25-year high. And you know that if the government is willing to cop to that number its really much worse.

Deep Recession or Depression, People Want to Know

by Jack Lee

When we bought our home we thought that was really the price, we didnt understand that was an artificial price due to banks writing bad loans. Joe Getty.

Bad loans and outright fraudulent loans were rampant during the years 2005, 06 and 07 and created billions in profits for many, until gravity finally kicked in and then home prices came tumbling down and took the nation’s economy with it.

Respecting Freedom

u19175066.jpeg“The society that puts equality before freedom will end up with neither. The society that puts freedom before equality will end up with a great measure of both. … Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself. … We have a system that increasingly taxes work and subsidizes nonwork.” Milton Friedman

“We who live in free market societies believe that growth, prosperity and ultimately human fulfillment are created from the bottom up, not the government down. Only when the human spirit is allowed to invent and create, only when individuals are given a personal stake in deciding economic policies and benefiting from their success — only then can societies remain economically alive, dynamic, progressive, and free. … Only private industry in the last analysis can provide jobs with a future. … The fact is, we’ll never build a lasting economic recovery by going deeper into debt at a faster rate than we ever have before. … In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” – Ronald Reagan

“The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. If ‘Thou shalt not covet’ and ‘Thou shalt not steal’ were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free. … A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.” John Adams

Philanthropy and Its Enemies – Activists want to redistribute foundation wealth based on racial quotas, by Naomi Schaefer Riley Wall Street Journal

** Nonprofit leaders are reeling from the recent news that President Barack Obama’s proposed budget would limit tax deductions on charitable contributions from wealthy Americans. But now the philanthropic world has something else to worry about. Today the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP), a research and advocacy group, will release a report offering “benchmarks to assess foundation performance.” Its real aim is to push philanthropic organizations into ignoring donor intent and instead giving grants based on political considerations. **

Activism is a form of bullying. Rather than use energies to better themselves and others in their communities, activists prefer to pressure organizations and businesses through intimidation . Rather than build businesses, organizations and wealth, they prefer to use the power of government to force wealth transfer or destroy competition. Rather than taking pride in working together to build prosperity they prefer to join together to tear down, and sometims steal, what others have built.

If we continue to let ourselves be intimidated by various bands of acquisitive bullies like ACORN, some Environmental groups, the NCRP and others, we will find our nation irreversibly shattered. We will become a nation totally lacking in freedom and opportunity and devoid of true diversity, creativity, aliveness and productivity.

I Wonder Whos Chortling Now

I wouldnt presume to place my imaginings into the former presidents head after all, he was a gentleman and he always greeted guests at the White House with respect and dignity. Despite occasional lapses into creative English he was appropriate when meeting with friends and allies around the world; he was even respectful toward our enemies. But I confess, I cant help picturing GWB flying through the hills on his mountain bike and smiling broadly at the missteps and gaffs of the current crop of leaders, particularly in the area of diplomacy. The MSM is loath to tell us about these flubs but I don’t mind discussing them here…for instance:

Global meltdown no sweat for Obama, by Mark Steyn Orange County Register

** The British Prime Minister Gordon Brown thought long and hard about what gift to bring on his visit to the White House last week. Barack Obama is the first African American president, so the prime minister gave him an ornamental desk-pen holder hewn from the timbers of one of the Royal Navy’s anti-slaving ships of the 19th century, HMS Gannet. **

Taxed by the Mile

Posted by Tina

** WASHINGTON Despite opposition from the White House, a proposal to tax motorists on the number of miles they drive each year is gathering speed on Capitol Hill. Its popularity is increasing as Congress searches for alternatives to the federal gasoline tax, which isn’t indexed to inflation and hasn’t been raised since 1993. McClatchy Newspapers **

After doing all they can to kill the oil industry…and thus smash the revenue it brings to Washington, Democrats now have a plan to make all travel more expensive for everyone and raise the price of everything we buy, including food….I hope Obama uses that veto pen if this stupidity reaches his desk.
