Should the Display of Terrorist Videos and/or Pictures Be Illegal?

by Jack

Should it be illegal to show a video of someone being murdered by terrorists? As you know the thugs called ISIS (or ISIL) sawed off the head of an American photo journalist recently and it went viral on the internet. In my thinking this is no different than posting child rape for people to watch. There’s no news or educational value by witnessing such depravity, it only serves the motives of the terrorists. It’s sufficient that the media report such things, but a video or photos, well, that’s a step beyond common sense decency. Further it may actually contribute to terrorist motives.

If the California legislature (or Congress) wanted to do something decent for a change they should craft a bill to make such vile videos depicting acts of extreme depravity illegal to display or view, just like they do for kiddie porn. Many nations already have this law and I’m surprised we don’t. This is needed to discourage the terrorists from buying airtime with human lives.

    No not illegal

Look at who posted it and played them

    Those are the enemies

I have not watched it, if you have that says allot

It takes integrity and those who play the video or the Washington post pic… they have separated themselves and I boycott them, it’s simple weed out the ratings whores by not responding

Remember they art to bankrupt us with wars per published letter…

The media that puts it up is an enemy of the United States of America …. they are free to post, I am free to boycott and battle them

That was to propagandize RW Americans into McCain’s next war

Jack do you know what the laws in other countries cover?

I don’t know how effective a law would be in a venue that knows no borders. The video was posted by the terrorists first, right? Did they use their own website? Once up there’s no way to stop it going viral that I know of.

I understand it’s now being removed. So we signal retreat? We do more of the same ineffective crap that has created this stronger more deadly version of the evil we faced after 911?

Up next…a much worse event than 911 in the US. running away and pretending there is no enemy (only a few criminals) hasn’t worked well after six years.

The problem with the “published letter” theory, per Dewey, is that ignoring these murderous terrorists doesn’t make them go away.

A proper response from my perspective is to finally realize we are not dealing with reasonable people, vow to end them, and refuse stop till the job is completed.

Boycott of this video, even if the boycott was 100%, would do nothing to deter them.

People need to know what they are up against. Protecting people from atrocities in life makes them childlike…they believe in a fairy tale life and eventually become ripe, willing pawns of an evil game.

War isn’t the worst thing that can happen. Allowing evil men to grow and spread leaving large swaths of dead, terrorized, and oppressed in their wake is the worst thing.

Integrity? Where is the integrity in cowering, or pretending you are not part of the real world, in the face of such evil?

Tina, here’s one quick example: France is one of the most protective countries on earth for free speech, yet they have LICRA, Ligue Internationale Contre le Racisme et l’Antisémitisme and they filter child pornography and web sites that promote terrorism, or racial violence and hatred. The French government has undertaken numerous measures to protect the decency of their internet, including the passage of the Loi pour la Confiance dans l’Économie Numérique (LCEN, Law for Trust in the Digital Economy), and they recognized early on the inherent danger and evil in showing terrorist video of any kind. Liberals in America see it differently as an attack on free speech rights, but clearly free speech has limits…even in America. We tend to draw the line when free speech poses a danger to public safety and morals. Right now kidnapping an American citizen by a Muslim terrorist cell has great value. They can buy airtime by staging video taped beheadings. They also hope to buy influence and alter foreign policy to their advantage. These are dangerous things that put all Americans at greater risk. We should not allow our 1st amendment to be a convenient tool for terrorism. This much is just common sense, however try to tell that to far left liberals that say we’re just being Islamophobic or some BS like that!

Tina, you said, “War isn’t the worst thing that can happen. Allowing evil men to grow and spread leaving large swaths of dead, terrorized, and oppressed in their wake is the worst thing.” I strongly agree. In the case of ISIS aka ISIL, the international community should declare them a blight on humanity and order their destruction, wherever we may find them. ISIS said and I quote, “We will drown all of you in your own blood and raise the flag of victory over your White House.” If some psychopaths were running around crucifying and beheading people and then they say they wanted to drown my family “in blood” I would be inclined to take them seriously, wouldn’t you? But you can count on our dear far left liberals to dismiss this threat as just hyperbole saying, “Oh, you know how they talk over there!” Then they typically will mock somebody like me, lecturing us how we’re being hysterical and irrational and how we need to just calm down….so patronizing. Yet, they gloss over the dead bodies laying on the desert sand?! They ignore the persecution of tens of thousands of Christians and religious minorities now facing death at the hands of these butchers. Chances are the typical liberal in America will offer up what they see as a moral equivalency comeback, “Remember the crusades Jack, remember Timothy McVey Jack?” As if that has any relevancy whatsoever with this genocide in our modern times! After being on this blog for year I’ve learned how liberals think, if nothing else. I have only called for the extermination of a political/religious organization once before, right after 9/11. But, I do it again today and I think it should be open season on ISIS believers until they are 100% dead and gone.

Interesting that the French have done so much to protect on the web. Could be the threat has become more immediate for them. See here:

Opinion surveys show that to voters in France — home to an estimated 6.5 million Muslims, the largest Muslim population in the European Union — Islam and the question of Muslim immigration have emerged in 2012 as a top-ranked public concern. The French, it seems, are increasingly worried about the establishment of a parallel Muslim society there.

But government efforts this year to push back against the Islamization of France were halting and half-hearted and could be described as “one step forward, two steps back.”

A chronological review of some of the main stories involving the rise of Islam in France during 2012 includes:

Muslim immigrants, as of January, began to find it more difficult to obtain French citizenship. New citizenship rules that entered into effect on January 1, 2012 now require all applicants to pass exams on French culture and history and also to prove that their French language skills are equivalent to those of a 15-year-old native speaker. Moreover, candidates seeking French citizenship will be required to pledge allegiance to “French values.”

Muslim applicants make up the majority of the 100,000 people naturalized as French citizens each year, and the new citizenship requirements form part of a larger effort to promote Muslim integration into French society.

In February, the Persian Gulf Emirate of Qatar announced plans to invest €50 million ($65 million) in French suburbs, home to more than one million disgruntled Muslim immigrants.

Qatar said its investment was intended to support small businesses in disadvantaged Muslim neighborhoods. But as Qatar, like Saudi Arabia, subscribes to the ultra-conservative Wahhabi sect of Islam, critics say the emirate’s real objective is to peddle its religious ideology among Muslims in France and other parts of Europe.

Shortly before Qatar announced its plans to invest in France, Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, who has long cultivated an image as a pro-Western reformist and modernizer, vowed to “spare no effort” to spread the fundamentalist teachings of Wahhabi Islam across “the whole world.”

The promotion of Islamic extremist ideologies — particularly Wahhabism, which not only discourages Muslim integration in the West, but actively encourages jihad against non-Muslims — threatens to further radicalize Muslim immigrants in France.

Russians, Canadians, the Chinese, Venezuelans, and Brazilians are buying up our real estate…also the French are buying in Miami. It won’t be long till we face what France is facing if we continue to ignore these guys.

Big gov law determining what is ok will result in corporate ,Media hiding truth from citizen Journalists who are under attack. Police jam the internet and had a kill switch put in Apple phones so no one can film them.

You have to realize the front lines in the world are centuries away from Chico.

  5. Dewey says:

Yes China owns Long Beach Port, They are selling off America.

Some of us will take our gov back, the rest want to overthrow it….. and then corps will run it fascism

When you mix Capitalism and State as Citizens United has that becomes fascism.

Overturning Citizens United is the most important issue today along with stopping all trade agreements in the present forms.

have you studied the TPP or the rest f the classified corporate written treaty leaks… You should they will end our sovernighty is just a few years
