Americans, Guns and Common Sense

by Jack

The woman is bright, mostly normal acting and well educated.   By all accounts she’s a good, law abiding citizen. But, she has a passion that is endemic within her brand of politics,  she absolutely fears, hates firearms…she even can’t stand to be in the same house where there are firearms!

Every time a new gun bill is proposed she is elated because they limit the number of firearms available to the public. And of course she always supported candidates who sought more gun control, because it plays right to her core politics. Her personal mission as she sees it, is to rid this nation of the scourge of personally owned firearms… for our own good. And these things are all her right to believe, right or wrong, but her’s the kicker…. she is a member of Congress.Nancy-Pelosi

Long ago she had accepted the extreme progressive rationalization that the 2nd amendment was a mistake, but she limited her public statements to saying that our 2nd amendment was created for State organized militias and for hunting purposes. She detests both, but it plays better with the public to say this disinformation as opposed to her deepest beliefs. Regarding the latter, she is vehemently opposed to the black assault rifle. Why their very color and name belie their murderous purpose or so she thinks. And she’s quick to say, “What kind of hunter needs 30 bullets to kill a deer?’ She sounds almost like an authority, even though in reality she wouldn’t know a butt stock from peep sight.

In an interview, she confessed how anxious she felt being in a house with guns, then she launched into a diatribe where ordinary citizens used military style weapons to murder large numbers of innocent children, and she would go down the list starting with the infamous Sandy Hook shootings. She sounds more like someone with a phobia that a federal authority on gun matters and so do many others of her ilk.

Who is this person? Her name doesn’t matter as much as what she believes. But, if you want a name I could cite any number democrats in Congress that would fit her basic profile. Judy Chu, Lois Capps, Maxine Waters, Barbara lee, Michelle Grisham, Doris Matsui, et al. And there are even more like her that exist in State government. And perhaps millions more like her that vote and support her causes. There are many people, men and women, who mirror her feelings,  it’s becoming almost trendy to be an anti-gun snob.   And this thinking is gaining more traction with every passing day.

What these progressives, these rabid gun-grabbers, absolutely refuse to accept is the idea that our 2nd amendment was never about guns for hunting or State sponsored militias. It was guns for protecting citizens from tyranny.   To be able to meet force with at least an equal force.fd45

They also tend to skate past the fact that evil exist among us and it has always been among us.  Gun legislation, no matter how strict, means absolutely nothing to a demented killer.

Gun legislation ONLY disarms the law abiding people.  It has no effect on determined law-breakers and certainly not thrill killers.  As simple and obvious as this may be, gun grabbers won’t accept it!  And it makes me wonder what’s wrong with them?  Why can’t they see what we see?

It’s a proven fact that excessive speed on our highways accounts for the majority of fatalities. 31% or nearly 14,000 men, women and children die every year from just speed related car crashes. In this one area we have thousands more killed than by gun homicides, even if you include all the justifiable homicides by police and self defense by citizens.  And the traffic fatalities are on the rise while gun related deaths are on the decline and approaching numbers not seen for decades. Gun murders are now at 1981 levels.

Despite the compelling number of traffic deaths there’s not one piece of legislation to place governors (speed limiters) on vehicles.   And rightly so, because people do not want them! They don’t want their freedom impacted by government imposing a speed regulator on their personal vehicle.   They demand the right to control their vehicle as they see fit, and if few others recklessly abuse speed laws they should be the ones punished, not the majority of law abiding drivers.    This is quite rational.  So, collectively what we’re saying is, we’re willing to take our chances in order to preserve this small freedom, even though it may mean some will abuse it.  It’s that important.  Well, if cars are that important, imagine how important is a right must be in the Constitution!

Not one person in Congress would propose such an absurd car law, not even our Congress lady who irrationally hates firearms, yet progressives eagerly embrace encroachments on freedom as defined by the 2nd amendment.   They regularly exploit tragedies for the sake of promoting of their gun grabbing agenda.    They will parse words and twist the meaning of the 2nd amendment and do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. No rhetoric is too absurd and no logic too flawed, if it will advance the seizure of firearms in the United States.

You have to ask yourself, why are they so focused on firearms when there are many other areas of our society that pose far greater risk to public safety?  What is this obsession with seizing guns? The answer is simple, it’s about power. No despotic regime in history has ever encouraged their political opponents to own weapons.  If every Syrian had owned an AK47 their revolution would have been decided in a few a days.   Now imagine if the resistance were only armed with shotguns and bolt action hunting rifles with 5 shot clips…. they would be annihilated.

The right to own and bear arms is akin to the canary in the coal mine.   When we loose this right, we’re in serious trouble and folks we are well on our way to serious trouble!

Christmas Stories – Americans Supporting Our Troops

by Jack

Dec 13th) My grandson was traveling in his dress blue uniform to his next duty station with some other young sailors from his unit. They stopped to get a shoe shine in Chicago’s Midway airport before flying on to Atlanta when a passerby noticed them. A man walked up and handed them $40 to cover the cost of their shoeshines, and insisted they take it, then he just walked away. Later on and about 15 minutes before boarding his flight, my grandson was at the Starbucks register about to pay for his coffee, when the lady behind him insisted on paying for it.

And now for another story that happened just a few weeks ago, also in Chicago. Thirteen Marines returning from Afghanistan were given the full hero treatment when they landed at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, and it all stemmed from a simple pizza request. Stephanie Hare, whose fiancé, Capt. Pravin Rajan, was part of the team, called the USO crew at the airport to alert them that the Marines would be returning that evening after seven months overseas. Ms. Hare asked if the Marines could receive some famous Chicago pizza and champagne upon arrival, or something of that nature. Instead, they were honored with cheers from a crowd of police, a fire truck water salute and first-class plane tickets!

As the Marines still had to travel to San Diego, they received six first-class upgrades from American Airlines, which has a policy to upgrade servicemen if there are available seats. The remaining marines were granted seats by seven first-class passengers, who “jumped out” of their spots as a gesture so the troops could sit together. Even more impressive, the whole thing was put together in an hour.

I’ve had similar experiences while in uniform. I was taking a morning coffee break in the base dinning hall (California Army National Guard Headquarters) on the day before Christmas eve. A pizza van showed up at our back door and it was loaded with all kinds of pizza’s and sodas, paid for by the appreciative citizens of Sacramento. A few of us were soon helping to off load the van. About 80 enlisted and officers were served that afternoon.

Another time I was seated alone in my Army combat uniform at a restaurant when an older couple picked up my lunch tab. I tried to explain I was just a reserve doing my weekend and while I appreciated their offer they didn’t have to do that, but it didn’t matter to them. A soldier is a soldier. A few months prior I was attending NCO training at our National Training Center at Camp Parks. I ventured off base to pick up some supplies at the local mall and I was confronted by a mother and her 8 year old daughter. They walked up to me and said, “I just wanted to say thank you for your service.’ And both her and her daughter shook my hand, my eyes still get a little misty over that one. I won’t forget these acts of kindness and support for our military people. It touched my heart and I relived those moments minutes ago when my grandson called on his cell phone to relate his own stories.

One of our readers, you know who you are, made a very sizable donation recently to the Fisher House foundation. They provide a free home to stay in for the families of severely wounded vets.  This helps the rehab and eases the pain and suffering by all concerned.   He could have bought something really nice for himself, but instead he chose to support our troops first.  That’s the kind of guy he is.

I thought you might enjoy hearing these about stories, and that this time of year isn’t just about frantic shopping.

Needless to say our family is deeply moved by these acts of random kindness by strangers. Maybe the next time it will be your son or daughter serving their country and I’ll be able to pass along the kindness shown to us.

Unlikely Series of Events Could Derail GOP in 2014

by Jack Lee

In the past days, weeks and months we’ve been witness to an unfolding of unlikely events within the democratic party; events that threaten an election disaster for them in 2014. Obama’s leadership has been questioned by even bedrock democrats over his corporate bailouts, continuation of Guantanamo, a burgeoning deficit, his illusive foreign policy, those Putin put downs, the Snowden affair, Benghazi bungling, the rampant spying on US citizens by the NSA and even his crown jewel, intended to be his legacy, ObamaCare.

By every measure democrats up for election were losing by their own devices. On the other hand the republicans were merely innocent bystanders, having contributed next to nothing, but avoided controversy, save for sequestration which was handled poorly.

Symptomatic of bad things to come has been a steady exodus of democrat voters that are re-registering as independents or declined to state. It should be noted that republicans have seen some of their numbers diminish too, but for entirely different reasons.  In the latter case ex-pats polled said they still embrace the GOP planks, but it’s been their party’s lack of conviction to those ideals and the political ineptitude that caused them to leave disillusioned and frustrated. Almost to a man, they’re saying we’re trying to send a message to their GOP leadership that they need to follow through on our core values and stand firm against growing the deficit.

Despite the internal GOP setbacks, the democrat setbacks have been much greater and their failures seemed destined to hand a victory to the weak knee’d republicans in 2014. All the GOP had to do is be quiet. Let the democrats continue on their path to self destruction and the 2014 elections would be theirs for the taking.

Boehner_angryYes, things looked so good it would take an almost impossible series of foot shooting events to stop that which was all but inevitable. For example, it would take the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, to sell out party principles and side with the democrats on growing the 2014 budget.

He would have to do something absurd like publicly insult the Tea Party republicans and tell them they have lost all credibility and do it in such a way they would turn on him.

Then we would have to have a monumental internal fight to cause a serious divide within the GOP. It would have to spark heated exchanges between the Establishment Republicans and the Tea Party faithful.

Indeed, these would be highly unlikely events, and they are almost preposterous to even consider… yet here we are.

Today and yesterday, Speaker Boehner called conservative opposition to the bloated budget “ridiculous” and accused certain right-wing groups like the Tea Party of “using the American people.” He continued his rant, “I think they’re pushing our members in places where they don’t want to be. And frankly, I just think that they’ve lost all credibility.” Referring of course to the Tea Party.

Congressman Tom McClintock expressed the his ire and that of many House republicans, when he wrote today, “The great irony of the Republican decision to bust the budget sequester is that barely two months ago, congressional roles were reversed….Sixty-three billion dollars of new spending – and therefore new taxes in some form – is not a small amount of money. It averages about $570 of added burdens for every family in America.”

The bipartisan budget that has divided the GOP would set funding levels for the next two years. (The House voted it in last night.) The bill would replace parts of sequestration, but effectively increase federal spending by $63 billion! By funding the government into 2015, they thought it would help avoid future fights leading to government shutdowns. McClintock is a Tea Party Republican.

Conservative groups, such as Heritage Action for America, The Club for Growth, FreedomWorks and others, immediately opposed the plan when it was released.

Well, there goes a sure thing for winning in 2014. You just can’t make this stuff up folks, it’s too incredible.

Obama Could Learn a Lot from History

Posted by Jack

The Northwest Ordinance, adopted in 1787 and passed again in 1789, contains the following beautiful sentence:   “Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary for good government and the happiness of mankind, the means of education shall forever be encouraged.” Accordingly, Congress proceeded to give 1/36 of the land in the vast Northwest Territory—including Michigan and four other states—as an endowment, controlled by the states, to support education in each township.

One of the finest laws written subsequently was the Homestead Act of 1862, by which ten percent of U.S. land—over 270 million acres—passed into the hands of individual citizens. The Homestead Act was 1,320 words in length.

Compare the Northwest Ordinance and the Homestead Act—perfect examples of the older, constitutional way of governing—with the new bureaucratic way of imposing central control through rules and processes that no one can understand. Compare them, for instance, to the Affordable Care Act, which when it was passed in 2010—and this does not include the countless rules and regulations it has generated over the past three years—ran to 363,086 words.   This law—and in the true sense of the word it wasn’t a law at all, but something different—was not readable or comprehensible.

Free Speech and the People That Hate It

 Posted by Jack

B5678

Greg Gopman, tech CEO in the bay area writes,

Just got back to SF. I’ve traveled around the world and I gotta say there is nothing more grotesque than walking down market st in San Francisco. Why the heart of our city has to be overrun by crazy, homeless, drug dealers, dropouts, and trash I have no clue. Each time I pass it my love affair with SF dies a little.

… The difference is in other cosmopolitan cities, the lower part of society keep to themselves. They sell small trinkets, beg coyly, stay quiet, and generally stay out of your way. They realize it’s a privilege to be in the civilized part of town and view themselves as guests. And that’s okay.

In downtown SF the degenerates gather like hyenas, spit, urinate, taunt you, sell drugs, get rowdy, they act like they own the center of the city. Like it’s their place of leisure… In actuality it’s the business district for one of the wealthiest cities in the USA. It a disgrace. I don’t even feel safe walking down the sidewalk without planning out my walking path.

Another Tech founder, Peter Shih, writes,

San Francisco has some of the craziest homeless people I have ever seen in my life. Stop giving them money, you know they just buy alcohol and drugs with it right? Next time just hand them a handle of vodka and a pack of cigarettes, it’ll save everyone some trouble. I’m seriously tempted to start f-g with people and pay for homeless guys to ride the Powell street cable cars in the middle of the day, that ought to get the city’s attention.

What these two young millionaires and CEO’s had to say about the bums, drug dealers and pan handlers  is not as important as what followed.   Almost miraculously, both these men suddenly had a change of heart and recanted their public statement within 48 hours! Somebody got to them and they were forced into making a false public statement and apologize for telling the truth.    This reminds me of another bay area resident that was forced to apologize before being released by North Korea. These CEO’s were telling the truth, but some people, especially in San Fransicko can’t handle the truth. And that’s the main point of this story. It’s is these blatant communists and anarchists that now occupy San Francisco that have no tolerance for free speech.

Apparently they hate a lot of things, like successful people who bring jobs to San Francisco.  Of course they (as a group) bring very little to the City.  They are takers and professional complainers, but they see themselves as better than you, champions, because they stick up for the downtrodden!  For the most part, these are the people trodden down by their own devices ;  but they not the people that keep San Francisco economically viable and pay for the homeless shelters and all the safety nets for the low and no income types.   These folks are just the angry mob that is always fighting against the man. Today they are ranting against successful people and companies with all the emotion and vigor of an evangelist in a rival tent. Because of their new found riches, start up tech companies are a big target for their jealous anger.

A few days ago Google’s private commuter bus in San Francisco was attacked by a pack of raggedy protesters that loudly complained these successful types are driving up the rent! Really? In a rare kickback, the young people on the bus yelled back and told them and I’m paraphrasing, then they should get a better job or in many cases just get A job or get out of SF! It was a strange paring of two groups, both young and idealistic but polars apart. I wonder if the bus occupants will be coerced into false confessions and apologies next?

Real Americans

There is no commentary that could even begin to describe what you are about to see. These are Americans, frozen in time by the camera. These people handed over a great nation to us. It was a nation united in shared ideals, with more freedom and more prosperity than we now have. We lost much of that gift because we didn’t protect it. We let it slip through our fingers because of an attitude that we deserved it and we didn’t have to try hard anymore to keep our edge. Click here and look, warning some of these pictures are hard to take.

Greenpeace Grinch-Santa – Despicable Trash Ad

Posted by Tina

The radical left is no stranger to exploiting and using children to further their causes but the latest advertisement by Greenpeace has to be the most despicable thing a leftist organization has ever Done!
National Review has the video in which a dark, gloomy figure depicted as a Santa figure warns children that global warming will ruin the North Pole and Christmas.

Please show you young children who might see this vile video on You Tube articles that proclaim the good news from NASSA, Forbes, Digital Journal, and Anthony Watts

The Earth is resilient and self cleansing kids, and…Santa Clause is coming to town, as he always does from his cozy workshop at the snowy and ice covered North Pole.

Congress Covers It’s Own Butt in Budget Deal

Posted by Tina

The compromise budget deal is a landmark accomplishment for Congress…for the first time since Obama was elected they have created a budget. Why?

‘Tis the season for a new election cycle. Both parties are aware of their low approval numbers. Both want to claim victory by showing they could work with the other side to “get things done for the American people”. Both want to avoid an ugly battle over another shut down.

Let’s face it; the people have doomed themselves unless they wise up take up the cause for themselves Only the people can elect representatives that will work together to dismantle the severe overreach that government under the radical Democrats (And powerless Republicans) have wrought.

As John Roberts indicated when he allowed Obamacare to continue, the people will have to sort this out.

So Congress has come up with a deal, so what? What else can they do when the ideology of the left has moved so far afield of the ideals the country was founded upon and so averse to the ideals that have historically made this country strong.
