What’s New? Not Much!

Posted by Tina

I’ve been absent for nearly a year. Has anything changed? Well yes, a lot has changed but the real story is not being told (smirk!). Consider the growing prosperity of the American people.

Trump policies have brought positive record breaking changes to every demographic! An amazing achievement, especially given the atmosphere.

Those among us who prefer the relentless pursuit to bring down a president refuse to celebrate this great achievement. How unfortunate.

This group has spent decades decrying the plight of the working poor, minorities, women, and children. This group blindly gives its support to policies and people that have failed to improve economic conditions. What’s going on? In the face of record breaking statistics they remain silent, combative, sullen and more determined than ever to impeach!! Explain, please.

I’ve missed you.

Mark Levin: Best selling author, radio talk show host, Fox News host of “Life, Liberty & Levin” (a show I dearly love) and Constitutional scholar. It is my understanding that as a lawyer he argued before the U.S. Supreme Court more than once and won. (But my memory fades and no, I cannot name the cases and I haven’t been able to find a citation online.)

Here is a link to what Levin had to say on Wednesday night. Watch it. Watch it again. Watch it a week from now. Watch it a month from now.

Only in CA

In one of the most gruesome stories of 2019, a homeless man in Los Angeles, Calif., dumped a bucket of “hot liquid diarrhea” on the head of an unsuspecting woman just walking back to her car near the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“It was diarrhea. Hot liquid. I was soaked, and it was coming off my eyelashes and into my eyes,” Heidi Van Tassel told NBC Los Angeles. “Paramedics who came to treat me said there was so much of it on me, that it looked like the man was saving it up for a month.”

Van Tassel had enjoyed a pleasant evening with her friends at an authentic Thai restaurant before she was randomly targeted for the fecal matter attack. The homeless man reportedly pulled her out of her car, dragged her out to the middle of the street, and dumped the diarrhea on her head.
The poor woman was rushed to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, where she was tested for infectious diseases caused by contact with feces. She will need to be retested every three months.
Speaking with NBC Los Angeles, she described a grotesque scene of diarrhea Armageddon. “It was all inside my car because it was so much. He just kept pouring it and splattering it all over me,” she said.
Yet Van Tassel’s nightmare was far from over.  The Los Angeles Police Department told her they would investigate the crime, but they did not answer her calls after the fact. Van Tassel also said the police promised to have their victims’ advocate reach out to her, but she never got a call.
Security footage from nearby businesses captured the attack on camera, and police bodycams captured the aftermath, but the LAPD and businesses would not release the footage when Van Tassel asked to see it.
“It’s so traumatic. The PTSD that I’m dealing with is beyond anything that I’ve ever felt,” Van Tassel said. “There needs to be some kind of help for the victims of these crimes.”
The diarrhea assailant, identified in court records as Jere Blessings, was charged with battery and taken to jail. Records described the man as a transient with “schizophrenia and psychotic disorders.” A judge sent him to a residential facility for people with mental health issues, but he is back out on the streets…somewhere.

The Other Soldiers – Post Veteran’s Day Thoughts

by Jack

Veterans, you have done a fantastic job and made tremendous sacrifices, sometimes during very trying times and worse, during war.  We will and we should, always be grateful for your service.  However,  there is another group has been coming under increasing criticism and scorn.  I hope that it’s just a passing thing, because they are every bit as dedicated and courageous as our young men and women who serve in the military.

Their numbers are less than a third of our military’s and yet their on-duty deaths are three times higher.   I’m talking about the thin blue line; its our last line of defense and if it falls its over for this nation.   Like soldiers, they wear a uniform, they carry a gun and they never know when they are going to be faced with life and death situations.  They are in so many ways just like soldiers, except they defend you where you live and these soldiers are never off duty; they are required to be ready to go into action 24 hours a day if the situation demands.

The mainstream media has been pretty rough on law enforcement, blaming all of them for the less than .05% that fail their solemn oath.  And certain political activist groups have gained a lot of attention for foolishly demeaning and castigating the police long before the facts were known.

I thought it would be appropriate to take a look at the oath officers must abide by, it reads:

“AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, my fundamental duty is to serve mankind; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the Constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality and justice.

I WILL keep my private life unsullied as an example to all; maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn, or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others.  Honest in thought and deed in both my personal and official life, I will be exemplary in obeying the laws of the land and the regulations of my department.  Whatever I see or hear of a confidential nature or that is confided to me in my official capacity will be kept ever secret unless revelation is necessary in the performance of my duty.

I WILL never act officiously or permit personal feelings, prejudices, animosities or friendships to influence my decisions.  With no compromise for crime and with relentless prosecution of criminals, I will enforce the law courteously and appropriately without fear or favor, malice or ill will, never employing unnecessary force or violence and never accepting gratuities.

I RECOGNIZE the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of the police service.  I will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself before God1 to my chosen profession…law enforcement.” END.   I wonder, how many of our legislator’s could live up to these standards?

Journalism School Apologises

by Jack

What is more damaging to the cause of women’s equality than male sexual harassment?  Fake charges of male sexual harassment.   What is more damaging than attacks on marginalized minorities?  Fake stories about attacks on marginalized minorities.  And what is more damaging to our societies concern about psychological well being of our next generation?  Made up charges of psychological trauma by no nothing little snowflakes.  I bring to you the “Northwestern University apology letter”:

The Hill – Editors at the Northwestern University student paper The Daily Northwestern on Sunday issued an apology for what it called “mistakes” in its coverage of a campus event last week featuring former Trump Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Sessions, who served a tumultuous term as attorney general under President Trump from 2017 to 2018, announced a bid to win back his Alabama Senate seat last week. He spoke at Northwestern on Nov. 5 amid heavy protests.

The editors at the paper from the well-known journalism school specifically noted the photos taken at the event in their apology, noting that some students had found them to be “retraumatizing and invasive” and adding that those photos had been taken down.

“The Daily sent a reporter to cover that talk and another to cover the students protesting his invitation to campus, along with a photographer. We recognize that we contributed to the harm students experienced, and we wanted to apologize for and address the mistakes that we made that night — along with how we plan to move forward,” reads part of the apology.

“One area of our reporting that harmed many students was our photo coverage of the event. Some protesters found photos posted to reporters’ Twitter accounts retraumatizing and invasive. Those photos have since been taken down,” it adds.

The online reaction to the paper’s apology was swift from across the spectrum, with most arguing that Northwestern, a university with one of the top journalism programs in the country, was abandoning the basic tenets of reporting.

It’s Veteran’s Day

A winning high school essay, author unknown

What It Means To Be A Veteran

I think we all have a considerable measure to thank veterans for. If it had not been for these veterans shielding nationals of the United States in past wars, we may not be free right at this instant. These men and ladies devoted their lives to our freedom, and this took a lot of hardihood and sacrifice. Numerous veterans even died, and I have seen on the news where numerous more are as yet passing on, and families are losing their friends and family. It is extremely dismal that the people lost their lives, however they knew the dangers and felt it was their duty and honor to battle on our behalf.
My meaning of a veteran is any man or lady who battled in a war and served our nation. A few people just respect those veterans who have passed on, however I believe all veterans deserve exceptional thanks and acknowledgment. Veterans Day is the day the United States puts aside for this reason; in any case, I believe we should all endeavor to respect veterans as frequently and as much as we can.
A few of my friends have relatives who are veterans, thus do I. My granddad was a veteran. If he was alive today, he could help me to compose this essay and disclose to me how he served our nation. Sadly, my granddad passed away before I first cried on this planet, so I don’t know much about his service, yet I know he served, and I am pleased that he was a veteran.
Ladies can be veterans, as well. My friend’s mom served as a medical caretaker in the United States Army. She looked after harmed warriors hurt amid the war. We ought to recall and thank every one of the ladies who served our nation.
Both of my brothers need to join the Army, and although I don’t think I want to, I support their choice, and one day I will be pleased to honor them as veterans. This is the thing that I think about veterans, I want to take in more about them later on. God favors the people who have lost relatives who served our nation. We thank the veterans and their families for all that they have done.

Jack Lee Art – The Red Albatross

The Red Albatross

Painting is acrylic on canvas, 20X24, depicting a 1917 Albatross by Jack Lee.  Barely visible is a flock of geese flying in a V formation and several geese circling above.  The terrain is  rolling hills with two table top type formations with rock cliffs on 3 sides.

Specs:

  • Role: Fighter
  • Manufacturer: Albatros-Flugzeugwerke
  • First flight: April 1917
  • Primary user: Luftstreitkräfte
  • Number built: approximately 2,500

The Albatros D.V was a fighter aircraft used by the Luftstreitkräfte (Imperial German Air Service) during World War I. The D.V was the final development of the Albatros D.I family, and the last Albatros fighter to see operational service. Despite its well-known shortcomings and general obsolescence, approximately 900 D.V and 1,612 D.Va aircraft were built before production halted in early 1918. The D.Va continued in operational service until the end of the war.

In April 1917, Albatros received an order from the Idflieg (Inspektion der Fliegertruppen) for an improved version of the D.III. The prototype flew later that month. The resulting D.V closely resembled the D.III and used the same 127 kW (170 hp) Mercedes D.IIIa engine. The most notable difference was a new fuselage which was 32 kg (70 lb) lighter than that of the D.III. The elliptical cross-section required an additional longeron on each side of the fuselage. The prototype D.V retained the standard rudder of the Johannisthal-built D.III, but production examples used the enlarged rudder featured on D.IIIs built by Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke (OAW). The D.V also featured a larger spinner and ventral fin.

The upper wing of the D.V was repositioned 4.75 inches closer to the fuselage, while the lower wings attached to the fuselage without a fairing. The wings themselves were almost identical to those of the standard D.III, except for a revised linkage of the aileron cables. For this reason, Idflieg conducted structural tests on the fuselage but not the wings of the new aircraft.

Early examples of the D.V featured a large headrest, which was usually removed in service because it interfered with the pilot’s field of view. The headrest was eventually deleted from production. Aircraft deployed in Palestine used two wing radiators to cope with the warmer climate. Idflieg issued production contracts for 200 D.V aircraft in April 1917, followed by additional orders of 400 in May and 300 in July. Initial production of the D.V was exclusively undertaken by the Johannisthal factory, while the Schneidemühl factory produced the D.III through the remainder of 1917.

Operational Use ²

The D.V entered service in May 1917 and, like the D.III before it, immediately began experiencing structural failures of the lower wing. Indeed, anecdotal evidence suggests that the D.V was even more prone to wing failures than the D.III. The outboard sections of the upper wing also suffered failures, requiring additional wire bracing. Furthermore, the D.V offered very little improvement in performance. This caused considerable dismay among front line pilots, many of whom preferred the older D.III. Manfred von Richthofen was particularly critical of the new aircraft. In a July 1917 letter, he described the D.V as “so obsolete and so ridiculously inferior to the English that one can’t do anything with this aircraft.” British tests of a captured D.V revealed that the aircraft was slow to maneuver, heavy on the controls, and tiring to fly.

Albatros responded with the D.Va, which featured stronger wing spars, heavier wing ribs, and a reinforced fuselage. The D.Va also reverted to the D.III’s aileron cable linkage to provide a more positive control response. The wings of the D.III and D.Va were in fact interchangeable. The D.Va was also fitted with a small brace connecting the interplane struts to the leading edge of the lower wing. These modifications made the D.Va 23 kg (50 lb) heavier than the D.III, while failing to entirely cure the structural problems of the type. Use of the high-compression 130 kW (180 hp) Mercedes D.IIIa engine offset the increased weight of the D.Va.

Idflieg placed orders for 262 D.Va aircraft in August 1917, followed by additional orders for 250 in September and 550 in October. Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke, which had been engaged in production of the D.III, received orders for 600 D.Va aircraft in October.

Deliveries of the D.Va commenced in October 1917. The structural problems of the Fokker Dr.I and the mediocre performance of the Pfalz D.III left the Luftstreitkräfte with no viable alternative to the D.Va until the Fokker D.VII entered service in the summer of 1918. Production ceased in April 1918. s of May 1918, 131 D.V and 928 D.Va aircraft were in service on the Western Front. Numbers declined as production ended, but the D.Va remained in use until the Armistice.

Good News – CA is Not Last at Something!

by Jack

This news may not warrant a marching band and waving the State flag, but it’s worthy of at least a modest grin.   I’m talking about the latest polling of states with the highest population exodus.  Those leaving CA stand at about 54.4% of the total moves.  That makes CA ONLY the 11th worst state in the union for people moving out verses those moving in.  This is unfortunately a record number, so you can wipe that smile off your face now.

California’s beachy, urban, outdoorsy lifestyles attract hardworking professionals and businesses that are ready to hustle. But the state’s astronomical housing prices and high living costs often kill the dream.

The top reasons people move out include jobs (41%), followed by family issues (25%) and retirement (22%). This is followed by safety concerns due to the record high homicides in 6 of CA largest cities and penalty reduction legislation that has sent property crimes through the roof .

Having half the nation’s homeless moving here for the freebees doesn’t help matters either.  Bums and junkies are taking over large swaths of the big cities and the damage they cause results in major blight and clean up costs.

When combined, CA taxes rank highest in the nation and that is also contributing to a severe economic downturn.  The rising  energy costs, thanks to wildland fires and the nation’s highest pump prices, are another major factor why people are fleeing this state in record numbers.

“Unlike a few decades ago, retirees are leaving California, instead choosing other states in the Pacific West and Mountain West,” Michael Stoll, public policy economist at the University of California, Los Angeles, told United Van Lines.

If the current decline continues unabated CA will be the first state to destroyed both socially and economically.  A CNBC study ranks California last in the nation for business friendliness and 49th out of the 50 states for cost of living.

Major Issues facing Californians include, but are not limited to:

  • Highest pump prices in the nation due to state imposed taxes.
  • California’s combined state taxation, from income to property tax, are now tied with New York’s, their total tax are the highest in the nation.
  • Grades 1 through 12 spending is at an all time high, yet test scores are failing across the state.  CA ranks 49th and 47th in science and math.
  • Sentence reduction reform for property crime have resulted in a surge of property crimes.
  • Rising costs of illegal immigration and the general costs associated with sanctuary cities have had a significant impact on municipal governments.
  • 3 of the top 10 worst cities for homicide are now found in CA.
  • It is estimated that about 50% of nation’s homeless have recently migrated to CA causing blight.  Hundreds of millions of tax dollars are being diverted to programs for the poor, mentally ill and those with severe addiction problems.  To date, all that spending has had little or no impact on reducing the homeless problems, if anything it has only gotten worse.
  • Rising insurance rates.
  • Wild land fires and lack of surface water storage.
  •  CA has a one party government controlled by progressive democrats and that has resulted in millions of voters with heavy taxation but having no representation.
