A Good Story of Life
by Jack
For the last week the Chico Air Museum, a completely self-funded endeavor, has been host to another self-funded organization, the Commemorative Air Force. These dedicated professionals give freely of their time, talent and money to bring to the public extremely rare and historically important aircraft.
For about three thousand visitors this week it was the chance of a lifetime to see a real B25 Mitchell bomber and a B17 Flying Fortress, both of course from World War II. The bombers were parked just outside our hanger and this allowed people to observe them from the museum’s viewing area. Others took a tour and a few lucky folks signed up for a flight on their favorite plane.
The flights began Friday and ran through Sunday, with the bombers ending air operations around 2 pm, then they were opened up for more ground tours.
Let me tell you, this was a very big deal for the people of Chico, the air museum and for the Commemorative Air Force. Everybody had a great time.
I flew in the B17 today from Chico to Lake Oroville. This was not like any commercial flight or civilian aircraft I’ve ever been on. I was seated in the radio operator’s area close to the pilots flight deck. Others in my group took up various positions from front to back in such places as, right and left waist gunner area, navigator’s seat and in the nose section. I was about 10 feet behind the starboard engine and it was pretty darn loud there. Of course I had ear plugs and that helped, but this made conversation near impossible with other crew members.
During the taxi I surveyed the inside of the 75 year old B17 and noted it carried 10 .50 cal. machine guns that pointed in every conceivable direction, thus the name Flying Fortress. This plane was a beast.
During our pre-flight safety briefing we were warned not to stand on the bomb-bay doors, it only took 100 lbs. of pressure to make them open. Also overhead and right above my station were the control lines for the tail section, they were only about 1/8 inch thick of stainless steel wire and if they failed… well, lets just say life would get real interesting in a matter of seconds.
On take-off I was surprised to feel the sudden acceleration as this big bomber’s 4 radial engines roared to life. We were pushed into our seats and we stayed there until we were well above 80 mph. A few seconds later we were lifting off into the blue skies just like B17 crews had done so many times in WWII. What a rush.
Amid the noise, vibrations, drafts and smell of engine oil, I suddenly gained a new appreciation for what the real bomber crews must have gone through back in the day. The inside was not pressurized and like I said, it was drafty. This was not a problem because it was 95 degrees outside, but I thought what if wasn’t? What if it was in the freezing cold of January flying over France and Germany? There would be wing icing, it would be well below freezing inside the bomber, windows would be icing over and the crew would be in electrically warmed flight suits. We would also be on oxygen above 12,000 feet.
Weather conditions were one thing, but what about being jumped by a bunch of German ME109’s fighters determined to blast us out of the sky? Or how about the sheer terror of encountering incredibly accurate German 88 mm flack guns that would fill the skies with puffs of deadly black smoke? There was not one safe place to be on this ship during combat, the aircraft skin was just thin aluminum that you could punch holes in with a screw driver. Your only defense was manning a .50 cal machinegun and fight for your life.
It’s obvious to me that the crews of B17’s and other allied bombers during the war were all heroes. They knew the odds of survival were slim, yet they kept taking to the air, mission after mission. For example, the 8th AF ran a casualty rate in excess of 50 percent of crew force. In the 8th AF, the pioneers of 1942-43 paid the heaviest cost. Only one in five of these fliers completed their tour of duty. Of the 110,000 aircrew in Bomber Command, 56,000 were killed, a loss rate of 51 percent! Not good odds was it? Think we could tolerate those losses today? We asked an awful lot of the young men back in WW2, but they delivered.
As a side note, among our dignitary visitors today was a former USAAF, P-51 pilot, Clarence “Bud” Anderson, the last living triple ace of WWII. Bud is an author and a decorated pilot who has been a featured guest speaker on the History Channel and the Smithsonian channel. It was an incredible honor to meet this man. Ilhan Omar in the Headlines Again
by Jack
What do you think about this silly woman? She is sure grabbing headlines – do you think it’s time that Pelosi reel her in? Or maybe she should be impeached for un-American activities? No? Too early yet, ok…but, give her some time she’ll get there:
“Anti-semitic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was banned from entering Israel Thursday ahead of a planned trip to the country tomorrow. She’s an avid supported of the BDS-movement, which aims to destroy the country through boycotts, sanctions and divestment. In typical fashion, Omar reacted to the news by accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Islamophobia and questioned the country’s status as a democracy.”
This person could have accompanied a bi-partisan group from Congress and nothing would have been said, but she had to be in the spotlight and she was being sponsored by a known Muslim terrorist group…the BDS. Further she was only going to meet with the Palestinians and blow off her host nation. Israel does not need this another Muslim cheerleader for BDS stirring up trouble. That brings up, why exactly do we need her in Congress? She’s done nothing but cause trouble from her first day in office.
What should be done with this agent provocateur and quite possibly a dangerous security risk as a member of Congress? When she was elected it seemed to me almost like electing a Nazi to congress in 1939. She’s all about supporting radical Muslim’s and could care less about managing her congressional district.
Kamala the Liar
by Jack
When Sen. Kamala Harris first ran for CA office I had very, very, low expectations. I was not disappointed. She’s quite possibly the worst candidate for president in American history. Here’s an example why I say that:
Yesterday, she was on the campaign trail trying to stir up the black voters in hopes of getting her failing campaign some traction. So, she took a dive and tried to label the police officer shooting in Ferguson Mo., as a murder. Oh, it was a police shooting alright and after Obama sent in the FBI to investigate, they had to conclude it was justified. The Dept. of Justice, the Ferguson Police, the FBI and the results of 4 autopsies and dozens of eye witnesses all led to the same conclusion. Officer innocent – suspect guilty. Not only that but there was never, “hands up – don’t shoot” said, that was a total lie started by the suspect’s friend.
Surely you remember that the suspect had just committed a felony (robbery) and he attacked the 1st police officer that came in contact with him. It could not be more clear, the officer fired in self defense! But, Sen. Kamala Harris is willing to lie and distort this incident even if it causes damage to the police and hurts race relations. She sold out the truth for a pollical score and she really thinks black people will buy into her big lie. She must have an even lower opinion of them, than I do of her!
In yet another Harris lie, CNN reported on Monday, that Sen. Kamala Harris claimed President Donald Trump has failed to deliver on his promises to workers. And she issued a dire warning about autoworkers’ jobs in particular.
“He said he was going to help working people, and it is estimated that as many as 300,000 autoworkers may be out of a job before the end of the year,” she said aboard her campaign bus in Iowa.
That was a more conservative figure than Harris used July 12 on the radio show “The Breakfast Club,” during which she said, “He’s helped the top 1% and the biggest corporations. Meanwhile, some estimate that as many as 700,000 autoworkers were going to lose their job before the end of the year.”
Both figures are incorrect.
Facts First: There is no credible estimate that 300,000 autoworkers might lose their jobs by the end of the year. And there has been an increase in autoworker jobs during the Trump presidency, though there has been a slight decrease over the past year.
Kamala Harris is a rabid, bomb tossing, commie, race-baiter and opportunist who should never be trusted and never hold any sort of office. She will lie and promise anything to meet her objectives. (To our resident liberals, please feel free to call Trump names now, but she is still a rotten liar.)

Sen. Chuck Schumer Speaks Candidly About Immigration Reform
Posted by Jack (with thanks to Hal for finding the video)
Illegal immigration has been a long standing problem in republican circles, but it also one that has been recognized by the democrats. It has been candidly addressed by President Clinton and more recently by Sen. Chuck Schumer, Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security. For your educational benefit please watch this compelling and inspiring 2 minute video. After watching this video one must wonder with such amazing agreement on both sides of the isle, why so little has been done to correct it? But, if you think there really isn’t true agreement, then please ask yourself who it is that has sold out America and who has been steadfast?
Absolutely Worth Considering
You won’t like everything in this video, but there is enough truth here that makes watching this worth your time. Enjoy…
CA Home Prices
by Jack
Latest study discovered that almost 20% of a CA home price is due to regulations and taxes levied and imposed before the first shovel hits the dirt. So, when liberals complain about the lack of affordable housing, remind them of their contribution to the problem.
Next, CA continues to suffer from a 20 year exodus that is taking this state from 1st place to near last place in all the areas that count, education, medical, energy costs, good highways, limited government, etc. You can thank the liberals for this great destruction, because they have controlled everything from top to bottom in this great decline. CA has suffered more at the hands of liberals than any state in America has ever suffered.
If this isn’t enough to wake up America to the dangers posed by socialist liberals in control then nothing will.
Jack Lee Art – Sunset in a Nieuport – Aviation Art
by Jack
This is a small painting compared to most all of my others. It measures about 14X16 and again its acrylic on canvas and depicts a later version Nieuport, but flown by the British as the rondel on the wing indicates.
This was done as an overpaint, in other words it was a painting I picked up at the Goodwill and painted over the original to save a few bucks. Before you call me cheap, remember I’ve not really sold anything, most just sit here collecting dust. So, I still used than top quality paint and bargain canvas, because I keep myself on a tight budget. I wonder sometimes what they would look like done in good oil paint? I have to work pretty hard to bring out the colors with acrylic, sometimes layering it on 3 or 4 times.
As usual, all comments are welcome, criticism especially. This is how I learn. So, thanks for looking and I hope you enjoyed, but if not, let me know why.
22 Acts of Kindness+
Posted by Jack
Sixth-grader Ruben Martinez wants to hold up posters, pass out flyers and promote a challenge on Facebook he thinks will help his Texas community begin to heal from a devastating shooting that claimed the lives of 22 people and injured 24 others.
He calls it the #ElPasoChallenge.
Here’s how it works: The 11-year-old is challenging each person in El Paso to do 22 good deeds for others — one for each of the victims shot and killed when a white supremacist began firing Saturday inside a Walmart.
You can mow someone’s lawn, visit a nursing home, pay for someone’s lunch or dinner, donate to families in need, write someone a letter and tell them how great they are, hold the door for everyone, take flowers to someone in the hospital or leave a dollar on the vending machine for the next person, the young boy suggests, among other ideas in a list of “kind acts” examples.
I think Ruben has a great idea. It wouldn’t hurt any of us to take a moment, reflect on our life, our giving and our taking. Think about how being kind to others has made us feel and perhaps added just a little bit more to our value as inhabitants of this earth? Our time is short here – we should try to do it right.
