Snoring is a worldwide phenomenon with estimates of over one billion people who snore due to some sort of nasal or airway blockage. Conservative estimates indicate that the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom represent over 70 million snorers alone.

Research into the problems of snoring has in recent years made important findings and yielded to the evidence of significant problems with snoring. Findings suggest that by their early thirties, twenty percent of men snore as compared to only five percent of women. Findings indicate a dramatic increase as men and women reach their sixties indicating that sixty percent of men and forty percent of women snore.

There are obvious differences in the percentages of men and women that snore. The reason for the difference involves the size of a person's neck, typically an effect of being overweight. Men tend to have larger necks than women do, and having a neck of 17 inches or larger makes it likely a person will snore. Surveys indicate that 80 percent of men that snore do not consider themselves to have a problem and in fact consider their spouses to be light sleepers.

Women are also more likely than men are to seek treatment for snoring. Women typically snore less than men due to smaller necks and larger air passages. Women also have a smaller uvula that makes them less likely to snore. You can learn more about snoring by clicking on snoring expert, Elizabeth Radisson's. image to the right.

The Snoring Poem

A snarling noise rips the peace of the night
And stirs sleep in the house on the hill.
The dog wakes up and moves from his bed
To seek safety - as all good dogs will.

Again and again the growling rings out,
Shaking the house to the core,
Until at last the woman reacts,
"Wake up -you're starting to snore!"

With a jerk and a curse the husband awakes
(or at least enough to show willing).
He turns on his side and drops off again
And returns to his nightmare so thrilling.

But all is not well in the land of his dreams
And he struggles to swim for the shore.
His breathing is labored, his muscles are tense
And - you guessed it - he's starting to snore.

With a kick and a jab and a prod in the ribs
He enters once more to the fray
"Will you bloody shut up, you bloody great ape,
Keep this up and I'm moving away!"

Again he is roused, again he turns round
And again he returns to his dreams.
For a moment he's quiet - and all is at peace,
But the moment's not all that it seems.

"SnnGraaghht!" comes the shout (Norse I don't doubt)
As the breath he requires comes at last.
"Well bollocks" she says, as she picks up the quilt
"and farewell - the last die is cast."

The sofa's the place, by the fire nice and snug
and silent - as it should be at four!
The dog wanders in and curls at her feet
And sadly - commences to snore!

That was cool. Nothing like stretching out good in the morning.

Thanks Pete

About Me: I am a born again Christian who enjoys talking religion and politics. I have always believed that it is the Christian's obligation to understand the workings of our government as well as they do the precepts of God. Jesus tells us to be "wise as serpents and harmless as doves". (Mark 10:16) So it is with this understanding that I approach life. I was born in the Midwest, and while I may have grown up in Northern Minnesota, I have earned my degree in knowledge and understanding from the many regions of America and Europe that I have either lived in or visited as an adult.
